Issue while trying to restart my Charge 3

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I'm trying to restart my Charge 3 to help with the connectivity issues, but my Charge 3 won't restart.  When plugged into the charger, I see the initial battery charging icon. When I manage to push/hold down the button thru the charger clasp window I feel 2-3 quick vibrations and sometimes the wake/notifications screen comes up or the charging battery icon disappears after a couple seconds and I never receive the smiley face signifying restart. I'm holding it for longer than 8 seconds.  I think sometimes in trying to press the button awkwardly thru the clasp window that I slightly move the charger and it loses contact with the charging pins.  I've tried several times, gripping it at different angles, trying to use different parts of my fingertips to press and hold the button, so I'm kind of frustrated at this point.

Anyone have any tips on how to ensure that the button is registering my press so that I can restart it?  How many buzzes are you supposed to feel when holding down the button for restart?  If you've successfully restarted your Charge 3, did you have to apply a lot of pressure to the button?

I have the same problem my charge 3 is not doing a good job recording sleep and info in the forum suggested restarting. Trying to restart I get the charge display (93% and sometimes 94%) Press on glass nothing much happens and after a while the display goes blank. Pressed for over 12 secs. I tried syncing and trying again after the sync but no change.

@KeithSloan Thank you for joining us in this thread! I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 3 battery indicator doesn't pass from 94%. I would like you to try one more workaround, which consists in letting the battery of your tracker to drain completely. After this, let your tracker charging completely and see if it reaches the 100% of battery this time.

I was having the same problem. My touchscreen was not working and following the restart protocols also did not work.

So I switched the clock face through the mobile app and everything worked fine again.

I hope it helps!!!

@KeithSloan- pressing on glass is not going to trigger restart - you have to press on the inductive button on the left side for 8 sec. Alternatively, restart can be initiated right from the tracker. From the main screen swipe 3 times to the left till you get to Settings - tap on it and scroll down to About. Tap on it - scroll down to Reboot Device option. Tap on it and wait few seconds (the device will turn off completely and then back on - there will be no smiley face).

I am having the same exact issue as the original poster and would greatly appreciate any advice.

(Additionally, I do not have an option to restart under Settings - About).

@djvachon, if you don't see restart under Settings=> About (scroll all the way down), then chances are your software is not up to date. In the same About section it should show version 28.20001.49.45 - if you see anything else, then you need to upgrade. If your version is up-to-date, then you may not have scrolled all the way down. Wouldn't hurt to ensure that Fitbit app is also up-to-date. The other alternative option is to restart using charging cable (holding heptic button for 8 seconds). I never had experienced any issues with either reboot option... hope it will work finally for you!

Thanks for the reply @RiseAndShine.

My firmware is not up to date. Unfortunately, this is the reason I am trying to restart my fitbit. It is not syncing, so I cannot update the firmware, and one of the troubleshooting options is to restart the device. It's the only option I have yet to try.
However, when I try to restart using the side-button, I encounter the same issue as the original poster.

If you have any answers to the original question I'd be grateful! : "Anyone have any tips on how to ensure that the button is registering my press so that I can restart it?  How many buzzes are you supposed to feel when holding down the button for restart?  If you've successfully restarted your Charge 3, did you have to apply a lot of pressure to the button?"

@djvachon, It might take several tries - when you put the tracker on a charger (should see charging icon) and press the button - you should get two vibrations/buzzes and just keep holding. What is inconvenient here is the screen time-out... because it just blacks out and hard to know whether tracker restarted or it's a time-out feature. Sometimes it takes several tries to finally get the reboot working, but the sign that it was successful would be a smiley face after a screen back out. If you still experience issues, I'd recommend contacting Customer Support. Happy New Year!

This helped me with rebooting my charge 3..thank you. I was having trouble with rebooting by pressing the button so I went to the about option on the fitbit and found the reboot option and used that.

@JJayM, welcome on board - sorry about your problem. Looks like your Charge 3 may not have the latest firmware - that's the reason you wouldn't have restart option on the tracker. Can you, please, check your firmware version (tap on Charge 3 icon in the top right corner of the Fitbit app, you'll see it right at the top - the last 4 numbers should be 49.45.

If your firmware is up to date, then you should have the ability to reboot device from the tracker as explained above.

One more option is to try 'harder' reboot:

  1. Connect the device to the charging cable.
  2. While the device is plugged into the charging cable, press and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  3. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration.
  4. The device turns off.
  5. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  6. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  7. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again.

Please, let us know how it goes!

Swipe to settings then scroll down to about, then scroll down to reboot device. I think I also restarted my phone and that worked.

@blinkey Thank you for participating in our Fitbit Community! I'm happy to assist you with your Charge 3 since it won't sync your Dashboard. By the way, thank you for troubleshooting this issue before contacting our forums.

I'd like you to follow the troubleshooting steps that are listed in this help article. It contains the restart process but you can skip it since you already tried it before. After this, monitor your tracker and see if the issue gets fixed.

Keep me posted on the outcome! Smiley Happy

I'm so frustrated with this tracker, I purchased it in Octobe, and it won't sync contacted your help desk and nothing worked I got a replacement in January, now the replacement has a blank scree, seems to connect to the app,.I tryed changing clock faces it vibratesv at the end but screen still shows blank, try to reboot holding for 8 seconds tracker vibrates, but no happy face shows up, I still have a blank screen. Apparently this is the only way to reboot, What are my options?
