Logged yoga exercise - No active minutes

I don’t understand how I can tell my Fitbit/App that I’m working out, and I don’t get credit for it.

I selected yoga from my Fitbit(not the app) I did 90 mins and when I synced the app, there’s 90 mins under my daily exercise, but it only logged 35 as active minutes. 

 I’ve read a lot on here, people are talking about how you have to get to a certain intensity/HR to log as active minutes. I argue that that’s not true. I’m a massage therapist and when I have 30 minutes between clients I casually walk throughout the spa, something’s better then nothing. My heart rate does not go super high, and all of the minutes get logged under exercise and as active minutes. 

With my 90 min yoga,  whether I’m stretching or doing poses, they are never held more then 30 sec, and I assure you I am consistently moving except maybe the last five minutes. 

 

 I don’t agree with how it’s logging. I’ve had my Fitbit for a couple of years now and I’m certain this isn’t how it used to work. If this is something new that change so be it, but it would be nice to know exactly what’s going on here, and how exactly it logs active minutes.

Your case does make sense to me.  As for just walking around, for me that almost always meets the intensity threshold for active minutes.

And, depending on the particular yoga, I can see it might not reach that intensity, at least not for long enough period.  Keep in mind, the intensity level has to be maintained continuous for at least 10 minutes.  If you are exercising with enough intensity for 8 minutes, then do stretching for a few minutes where your heart rate drops sufficiently, that does not qualify as any active minutes.

If you want to examine your case in more depth, look at your heart rate and calorie graphs on fitbit.com (click 'Dashboard' near top right of this page).  On the all day calorie graph, you can look at overnight asleep time to see your BMR calorie burn which is 1 MET.  Multiply that by 3 to get the calorie burn rate to qualify for active minutes.

Then on the same fitbit.com, look at your activity log for the yoga class and you can see a graph of calorie burn to see is it consistently stays above the 3 MET level.

 

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
