Many times awake

I did a google search and couldn't find anyone else with such a high number, last night I was awake over 1 1/2 hours and "awake" 51 times, I know I sleep bad, I hardly remember being away however, I do toss and turn a lot, I have been seeing a sleep specialist and we have been working on my sleep w/out medicine for now, I called him yesterday and told him how many times my Fitbit shows me waking so he is ordering me a in-home sleep study, I pick up the machine next Thursday, it records for one night, I have to return the machine the following day, some nights I have sleepless nights so I am hoping I can sleep that night or I will blow the study.

Anyone else have this many wake times?  My setting in on Normal! 

Just wanted some input.  Thank you  🙂

It's great to see you around the forums, how you doing @SandGirl? It’s normal to see awake minutes in your sleep stages; studies have shown a typical adult could wake up briefly between 10-30 times per night. You may not remember waking up since you likely fell right back to sleep, especially if you were awake for less than 2-3 minutes at a time. If you wake up in the morning feeling like you had a restless night, you may notice more awake minutes in your sleep stages as compared to other nights.

If you previously tracked sleep with Fitbit, your log included the time spent awake, restless, and asleep. We’ve fine-tuned the mechanism we use to track sleep in order to estimate your sleep stages by including heart rate and other data. As a result, we’ve combined the time you spend awake and restless into total awake minutes to give you a better sense of your sleep cycles. 

You may notice more awake minutes in sleep stages than in your previous sleep data due to this change.

Note that sleep stages aren't affected by the sleep sensitivity setting on your tracker. 

There are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your tracker from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your tracker higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your tracker to bed). 
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your tracker’s battery is critically low.

Last but not least, one thing I recommend is switching your heart rate setting to 'On' instead of 'Auto.' If the heart rate setting is set to 'On' your heart rate will always be active. Keep in mind that you need to record heart rate to calculate sleep stages. If you were to turn off heart rate, your sleep logs will go back to the classic style.

In addition, I think it's great that you update the Fitbit app to the latest version (iOS and Android). I always recommend keeping both the tracker and the Fitbit app up to date with the latest versions.

Once my fitbit sleep information told me how many times I was awake but the rest of the time it tells me how much time I was awake. I prefer to know the number of times I was awake but don't know how to set up my fitbit to give me that info. Any help is appreciated. Fran

With my cpap I'm awake 23+ times. 112 times is a lot. What did the home sleep study show?

I'd recommend checking out our Feature Suggestion Board if you haven't already. This is a space where Community users can post features, ideas, and suggestions that they'd like to see in future Fitbit products, accessories, and software and top-voted suggestions get relayed to our product team for review.

I'd also recommend up-voting and commenting on Awake and restless times feature suggestion since it is very similar of what you're looking and asking for.

I have mild apnea but I tried for 5 weeks to use the CPAP and was ending up not sleeping at all, I went 4 straight nights with no sleep. I would TRY to hard to breath that it would kick my Heart Rate up and keep me from sleeping so the CPAP is not my answer, I might try a mouth piece but that is 3500 out of pocket so I might try one from amazon first and just see how that works before spending that much on a custom size mouth piece

Yes, it does take some time to adjust but it is worth it. I hope that
the mouth piece works, I have heard good and bad about them. Have a

I can see the graph and minutes I was awake but I want to see how many times. How can I do this?

It makes zero sense to show the number of times awake...I mean Fitbit's own description for that field on the graph uses awake times as the standard...not total minutes. 

 

I am stunned that any quality control would let that happen. Telling me I have 54 minutes awake but not how many times is useless information. 

 

It is like telling me my car is normal to have 20 MPG city then only giving me highway data on usage.

Were you able to address this problem and reduce the number of awakenings eventually? 

 

I'm in the same situation. I have mild sleep apnea - my AHI is low and my oxygen levels never go low. But I do have a lot of arousals / restless periods so I've been trying to improve my sleep quality. CPAP didn't work for me either. I've tried one cheap (~$50) mandibular advancement device from Amazon but without much success so far. But only tried it for a couple of days.

I did a sleep study and I do have mild sleep apena however, I have tried SO MANY diff. mask and ways to sleep and I end up with a sleepless night and anxiety if I try to use the machine so the machine is not an option for me!
