Hello,
Back in March this year, I received an email advising me that I need to make some changes by February 2026, namely to register my existing fitbit account with a google account, or face losing the data that has been generated since I first opened the fitbit account, as well as the ability to retain future generated data.
The thing is, my fitbit account is already registered with a google email address - will action still be needed?
The other thing is however, is that I don't actually want my google account itself associated with Fitbit, I'd prefer to keep these two things separate, so is there an option to just register a new gmail address specifically for the fitbit use?
If I decide I no longer want the account regardless, and am happy to no longer have or retain the data, can I still use the device to track my daily steps even if the data won't be retained?
Finally - why is it that the data already stored would need to be deleted should the user not have an account? Its already been generated and is currently being stored - so why get rid of it after the fact because a desired account hasn't been set up? I certainly understand why future generated data would no longer be retained, but to just purge existing historical data, doesn't make sense to me... Could anyone provide further advice on that?
Kind regards,
OneOfMany.

Hi @SomewhereInLond. You can have a Fitbit account with any email provider, including gmail. My Fitbit account used my gmail address, too. If you see a gear icon in the upper right of your Fitbit app, then you must migrate before the deadline.
The way I understand it, you must migrate or your account will be deleted.
You can’t use a Fitbit without an account. All electronic clocks can drift and lose time. You need to sync periodically to keep the correct time, including when you change time zones.
I can’t help you with your question about more than one Gmail account.
