I think the first thing is to check to make sure the unit is tracking all your steps. Run a quick check and walk a known number of steps, say 25 or 50 and check to see if the it records all the steps or at least is close enough. If the number of steps is correct then try:
Go to your profile settings page here: https://www.fitbit.com/settings/profile and then scroll down to the stride length tile and click edit. Check to see what stride length is assigned to you. For a quick check just walk 10 normal steps and then measure the distance and divide by 10. If the assigned stride length is off then you need to manually adjust the length following this: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1135/?q=stride+length&l=en_US&fs=Search&pn=1

My problem is that I walked 3.13 miles on an outdoor workout, but the miles didn't get added to my total. How can I add those miles to my total. One answer said that the reason they didn't get added is because outdoor workout is for kayaking or skiing. That's not very helpful. If I ski 3.13 miles, I'd like that to register as well. So I really have two questions: how to track miles while walking, and skiing, and how to add miles to my daily total if that's the only way I can show them in my daily totals.
