Moving too fast for Fitbit?

So normally I average about 2000 steps per mile. Today I moved much faster than I normally do. On average I do 4-5 miles on my treadmill. My Fitbit is usually pretty accurate within 1 to 2 steps off. Today I power walked at a joggers pace and did 5 miles and it feels like my Fitbit didn't register all the steps. It clocked me at 9000 steps when I hit my 5th mile, but since I'm moving faster and increasing my steps, I would like to think I would have averaged more steps per mile. Any advice?

Moving faster, you are not necessarily going more steps per mile.  You might have been increasing your stride length which would give fewer steps per mile, even if you were taking more steps per minute.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

I never thought about it that way. Thanks for explaining it to me.
