Multiple devices on one account?

This has been a real problem with members who have multiple devices. I guess we won't know until we get one and try with say an Ionic?

@Hatbush This feature was not announced so I would assume if it wasn’t announced yet, it’s not ready. Hopefully in the future we will be able to have multiple devices on a single account.

Can you use both devices without all the switching hustle?

Nobody really knows for sure yet, but I doubt it.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Will be interesting to know. I want to use a Charge 4 for sleep and exercise and a Versa 2 for Work and going out. If I can't have both on the one account, I won't be buying a fitbit at all.

Yes well I'll wait until somebody knows for sure. If the answer is no, I won't buy Fitbit (again)

I was interested in the new model, Charge 4, being advertised as the latest "tracker" model coming out soon.  However, I currently use an Ionic and wanted to know if the Charge 4 could be used on the same account.  This incompatibility has been an ongoing inquiry and complaint from many current users.  Here's the answer from Fitbit Support:

Me:I'm interested in the Charge 4. I'd like to know if it can be used simultaneously on an account with the Ionic.

Aisa:To answer your question, the newly released products cannot be used under the same account with the smartwatches.
Aisa:So you can maximize the Charge 4’s feature, please use it on a different account.
Me:OK, but you're advertising the Charge 4 as a "tracker," and not a Smartwatch. Why can't Fitbit make them compatible?
Aisa:Yes, you are correct, Susan. But the Ionic is a smartwatch, you cannot use them on the same account.
Me:Too bad. Many sales of the new model will be lost. The developers need to work on this. I'm signing off but thanks for your time

Hi @SueDAP If you already have an Ionic why would you need the Charge 4?  The Ionic has everything the Charge 4 does with the addition of local music storage and more apps and clock faces.  All Fitbits that use the app gallery (Ionic, Versa, Versa 2 etc.) cannot co-exist with another on the same account.

I agree. Confirmation by someone at the company familiar with the engineering is needed. Then people can make an informed decision.

Before trackers became the norm, how many people had a sporty watch, a dressy watch, a digital display, an analog display, etc.?  I know I’m not alone in wanting to be able to change off, and while one model is charging, the other can take over the tracking.  A similar thread was trending a LOT of agreement when the last HR Inspire came out, and people found they could only have 1 watch on their account at a time.

Best Answer

Actually most people had one watch, simply because they where expensive.

@SueDAP I'm not understanding the theory that the Charge 4 being incompatible with the other trackers.

This limitation is not with the trackers, but with the Fitbit cloud services on the Internet.

Thanks Susan. This issue has been reported to Fitbit over and over and over. probably since they released the Charge 3. Garmin has toggle use of their tracker and a watch so I went with Garmin. Plus open water swimming. The Charge 4 is attractive to me because I can wear a dress watch or a nice sports Breitling with the Charge 4. Hopefully, I'm not disappointed.

Hi everyone. It's great to see you here in the forums. I'm sorry for the delayed response.

Thanks to all of you for your interested in our newest Charge 4 and I'll help you with your questions. Let us explain that although the Charge 4 isn't a smartwatch as the Ionic, both share very similar operation systems and at this time, having both devices on the same account cause difficulties. This is why the Fitbit app will allow you to set up just one of those devices at a time.

I understand your point of view and while our team continues working to improve our products and services, please check this idea posted in the Feature Suggestion board and vote for it so it can get the attention of the development team.

@Hatbush, thanks for stopping by to share your feedback. Every comment posted in the forums never goes unnoticed, and yours won't be the exception.

@SueDAP, by the way, I've moved your post to this other thread so we can keep our forums organized.

@Heather-S@JohnnyRow@markw47 and @Rich_Laue, thanks for sharing your insight and help!

Feel free to reply back if you have another question.

@LizzyFitbit

Thanks for that … sooooo … the answer is that the new Charge 4 is no better than any of the other useless devices that won't work together. Thanks, I'll order elsewhere.

"Not ready"... implies they are working on it. They aren't working on it so your response is simply not true.

Therefore I wonder why your response was deemed "Best Answer"  … hmmmm

You use a Versa with a leather band as a dress watch to work or diners / events, and the Charge 3 or 4 with a rubber band for exercise, swimming and bed to track sleeping where a leather band would be ruined or the watch is too large.

We also don't want gaps in data when we switch between devices because they go flat.

Its a really obvious request and need, and I'm amazed when people query others as to why their needs are relevant.

Actually you can use a Charge 2 with any version of  Ionic and Versa no problems for example. So the comments about trackers compatibility is very relevant.

But you are completely correct, Fitbit's cloud hosted software architecture is the fault here and so this issue is a completely solvable and retrospectively applicable. However they simply don't want to fix it, and that needs to be known by consumers BEFORE they spend money on a second device.

So they just cover it up with people like you trying to discredit the detractors. That's why I post on FB to my 1/2 million followers about this and don't use my FB account to log on here.

@pj_b I never said that the Charge 2 can't be used with the newer trackers. That is because the Charge 2 doesn't access the Fitbit app store.

Are you sure that Fitbit doesn't care, and not working on implementing this, did support or some other Fitbit employee tell you this? They all have signed an NDA and I very much doubt, it hasn't happened once in the last 10 years, anyone will give a Definite yes or no until it is announced on the Fitbit Blog

We can only keep hopeing for now.

As for gaps in days while charging, not a problem I have Mobiletrack  connected.

Well depending on your device choice Mobiletrack is useless. I had it on my Android phone and they told me if you have a tracker, mobiletrack won't sync, I deleted my tracker and it still wouldn't sync. I couldn't add it back since my phone wasn't supported yet it is same hardware as a Samsung S8. It tracked but wouldn't sync but my tracker would sync. Did they add it to the supported list no yet the next generation of the phone gets added. Oneplus 6.

So I am assuming you are using Iphone as mobiletrack since for some reason they can make that work and have a tracker connected to the account.

Mobile track depends on the phone having supported hardware, but once added it allways syncs any steps it detects.

If the Fitbit tracker on your arm is counting steps, Fitbit uses these steps. When the Fitbit tracker is not on the arm, then Fitbit uses the steps mobile track has recorded.

I just replaced a Charge 4 where the base/holder for the band broke after just about a year- which I was sort of disappointed about.  I was considering getting the SmartWatch that is made by the same company that I have my phone from- but that one didn't have some of the features that I really like with FitBit.  Plus, the cost was a bit higher- even than for the "limited edition" Charge with the Fabric/Woven Band. And, I've had FitBits for quite awhile (I think this is my 4th one). After spending the money on this latest Charge, I didn't want to risk wrecking it during some of the activities I want tracked as Exercise (Ice Hockey, Kayaking/PaddleBoarding).  So, I figured I would get a less-expensive, more basic FitBit.  Looked online to see if you can have more than one device on the same account and the data would get totaled together.  Bought an Inspire 2 with some coupons and a sale price so it was less that $40 out of pocket for me.  But, was, once again, disappointed and frustrated with how FitBit has "updated" things (it usually seems to get worse, not better).  Apparently, based on the results on the search I did, you used to be able to do that.  At first, I didn't notice the dates on the articles saying it's possible were from 2015-2017 (so, my fault). It did figure out it's not that big of a pain to do a "Set-Up & Switch Devices" every time I go to/from the Rink or the Lakes, and it only takes a couple of minutes.  But, still, slightly annoying.  Between the combined cost of the 2 FitBits to end up with some slight incompatibility, plus the issues with the broken bands/bases on the Charge 4- I feel like I might have been better off going with the "FruitWatch" instead.  I am hoping that the phone people fine tune their watch/app by the time I am ready to replace these trackers.  Because, these are likely to be the last FitBits I'll get.
