Can anybody provide links to scientific articles discussing the science behind Fitbit "sleep" analysis? In the 5 months I've been using a Fitbit Charge-2, on less than 10% of those days does it show detailed sleep classes (i.e. "deep sleep", "light sleep", "REM", et. al.). Usually all I get is "sleep", "awake" or "restless".
And some of the Fitbitstatistics seem patently ridiculous. On one Saturday evening when I was sitting upright in a non-padded chair in an auditorium, it recorded 1.5 hours of "sleep". N.B. this was NOT an evening when I was nodding off from time to time, but was fully alert and laughing fairly often ("Crazy Rich Asians" was quite entertaining).
Is there any evidence to suggest I should consider my Fitbit Charge-2 "sleep" records as anything more than an amusing parlor game?
