when mine is in sleep mode, it is completely black. When it is out of sleep mode, it's dark and hurt my eyes.

I have the same problem as the other posters. My Brightness settings just have "Auto" and "Normal" options, no "Dim". I have tried both and don't see any difference between the two. I'm not in "Sleep". I like the new firmware update where "Sleep" finally works and stopped lighting up at night. However, since the update, the screen is too dim to read with any light. Though seemed to have gotten worse as time since firmware update passed.I tried the reboot suggested too but no difference. I also see the first and last number of the time (far left and far right) as extra dim, like the screen is going out. Mine is less than 2 years old.
If there is a firmware solution, please let us know. Otherwise, I may give up and go back to a old fashion watch without step counting :(.

I have this issue, I can make out the clock (analog) but cannot see the pulse under it, I can see something is there so its not off which is supposed to the pulse.
Additionally my Charge 3 will only sync if its charging despite being at full charge, and only if I set it on top of my IPhone (new SE) while the fitbit is plugged into charge.
It is 1 year old by new purchase - got it last xmas.

This was the problem with mine too! THANK YOU! I was at my wits end & have no idea how it shifted to “Dim”! 😃👍

My charge 3, which is around 16months old, has developed the same problem. It’s impossibly to read in any light despite sleep not being selected and brightness being on normal or auto. It’s so annoying.

Read several posts. None of them seemed to work. I finally fixed my dim screen problem by: holding the button until I saw DND. Flipping the screen down past Sleep to Screen Wake, I noted the Screen Wake icon was in the block mode. Touching the icon cause my screen to brighten up and it was fixed.

I double checked the sleep mode on mine - it wasn't on; screen brightness is at max and my display is still dim and hard to read. Also there seems to be dark screen sports on the upper left side and upper right side. I tried factory reboot and changing the clock face to factory Fitbit clock faces (which it was already) from another forum recommendation but that didn't work either.

Went to the closet and I was finally able to see though very little but finally got it. Still can’t see in daylight.

That would be easy to do if we could see the face. We cannot see the face to go to settings or any screens. I have also tried resetting it and restarting it, but it did not work.
