Let’s say I’m about to run virtual 5k and I want to be alerted once I’ve reached the 3.2 miles. Is there a way to do this on the Charge 2?

This function was recently added to the ionic and versa but isn't currently available for the Charge 2. Let's hope it will be added at some point in the future.

Welcome aboard @jonbuck1984! Well, there is no way to set like an alert every time you reach certain amount of distance, this type of features are just available on the Ionic and the Versa as @SteveH said, however, you can set "Distance" as your main goal on your Charge 2, and set the length you want your tracker to alert you, but this will vibrate once per day when you reach the set goal.
If you have further questions, let me know!
