Sleep not automatically tracking on Charge 3

My charge 3 is not automatically tracking my sleep. The only way it will track is if I manually tell it that I am going to sleep and that I’m awake. I reset the Fitbit and tried it again last night but did not track again.

Welcome on board @Adrienne.p, it's nice to see you here! Thanks for already restarting your Charge 3 in order to sort this out. Nice way to go!

Sleep stages are based on heart rate data. Since you just bought the Charge 3, give the heart rate a few days to settle down. It does some calculations, looking at heart rate throughout the day and while you are sleeping, so it might just not have enough data to give a reasonable value yet.

Make sure that you're getting a solid heart rate reading , since sleep stages requires consistent HR. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight. Also, double check that your watch is charged up.

Additionally, I'd recommend checking the following that could be preventing you from receiving sleep stages:

  • If you used the "Begin Sleep Now" option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed).
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.

For more information about why you see your sleep pattern, tap or click the sleep record that shows your sleep pattern.

Hope this helps my friend! Smiley Happy

Thank you for you reply. However, my issue is not with sleep stages not showing, but rather no sleep is showing at all unless I tell my app that I am going to sleep. It has not tracked my sleep in 4 nights. Restarting the Fitbit did not help.

Thanks for getting back @Adrienne.p! As I mentioned above:

Additionally, I'd recommend checking the following that could be preventing you from receiving sleep stages:

  • If you used the "Begin Sleep Now" option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed).
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.

Please try restarting your Charge 3 once again by following these steps. Then, test your tracker the next few nights and let me know if the issue persists.

Hope to hear good news!

Can you please explain this more? yes, I did try the begin sleep now after it did not automatically track sleep.  Does this mean going forward it won’t auto track my sleep? I am getting more than 3 hours sleep and I have reset the Fitbit per the instructions.

I am experiencing the same problem. Two consequitive nights without any sleep data captured. I have to "Add Sleep Log" manually on the Android app in order to get get data back. This is an untenable operation of the device.

Automatic Sleep Tracking problem.

I am experiencing no automatic sleep tracking problems. Two consequitive nights without any sleep data being captured.

I have to "Add Sleep Log" manually on the Android app in order to get get data back.

This makes the operation of the tracker untenable for sleep tracking purpose. (Compared with defined start/stop operation of the Fitbit Charge HR. Less sleep analysis than Charge 3, but better positive action)

My Fitbit 3 Is 4 days old. It is adequately charged and has the most current version on app downloaded. It tracked my sleep patterns the first two days and for these past two days has failed to track it at all. Need a solution

I have tried all of these things. Even switched bands to get a closer fit. It does appear my heart rate is being monitored but I have not gotten sleep stages in weeks. I finally furgured out how to switch from sensitive to normal in hopes that would help but to no avail. I have woken during the night for other reasons but checked the placement of my BRAND NEW fitbit and it still is not working. I would like some serious help with this. I'm ready to return this device. Its brand new and I have checked everything on every forum. I think it's time for an intervention from fitbit themselves.

My sleep tracker worked on the first night and now it does not. I have tried your suggestion but to no avail. How do I contact fitbit support in Australia?

My sleep is not tracking since the last update-I have restarted, checked the band position, have it on sensitive-NO TRACKING

This problem arose since the last update

I have tried turning my new Charge 3 off sensitive, I have purchased a new band to hold it snuggly close, I have re started my device. I have it on all day sync., it is a full battery or at least 75% when I go to bed at night, I am sleeping more than 3 hours a night, it is 2 fingers above my wrist bone and I don't use the 'sleep now' function. The device is a month or 6 weeks old and I haven't gotten a sleep stage in weeks. I've done everything on this forum so my assumption is that it is a deffective device. Do these moderators work for fitbit?  I am so angry right now. I had an Alta HR that was a year old and glitchy and traded it for a new charge 3 as there was No support for my old Alta HR. And still even with my BRAND NEW Charge 3 I can't get any support. Seems my next device will be purchased based on a manufacturer who is willing to stand behind their material. This is ridiculous.

I hope the moderator can see this. That is a nice solution if the app products work properly. My android phone app has no sleep button at all. The windows app has problems as well even after I updated it yesterday. It will run once after I install it. After that, it looks like it is going to load and then closes. Given these two issues, I have not way to track my sleep. I have sleep apnea and insomnia. This feature is the main reason I bought this. So, how can I get it to track sleep? To declare this 'Solved' is just not true. I have other technical issues with the device. Each day that goes by, it get closer to returning the device.

Mine tracked for 2 weeks and stopped 2 days ago.  Also stopped tracking my steps today.  It's 2 weeks old and is now basically a wrist watch.  Tried restarting Fitbit, turned Bluetooth off and back on, restarted app...nothing worked.  Very disappointed.  Seeing that this seems to be a consistent issue with no solution.  Looks like I'll have to return it.

This is happening to mine as well.

My fitbit charge 3 has not tracked my sleep for the last week. I've done all the above as well.

Seems to be an absolute joke, all you get is a generic answer which is useless, ibviously a problem with the device (charge 3) app is up to date and the the latest firmware updated, still does not track sleep. Never had this problem with charge 2 which worked flawlessly. Sending mine back, waste of space

This is very disheartening.  I, too, have a month-ish old Charge 3, and haven’t had sleep patterns in a week now. FITBIT, please help!

I went into the app and did a reboot for my Fitbit and it completely worked. . It has to be done on a computer I think. It's been a number of months for me now.

Hi Kim D. - I only have the app on my phone and I have tried to delete and reinstall it, but no success.  Thanks for the suggestion, though.  😉
