Sudden issue with recording all data except steps

I recently noticed that I was getting horizontal lines across the screen.  This appeared to be intermittent but, at times, it was impossible to make out what was on the screen.  All the time, all other functions were working correctly UNTIL YESTERDAY!

My battery was low so I put it on to charge.  When it had finished, I synced my phone and device.  It promptly lost all readings for the day.  At the same time, the device would not scroll down or across so I rebooted it with the charger attached.  When the reboot was complete, I disconnected and activated the screen; the device seemed to go into overdrive with lots of pulsing and the screen flashing and rolling without any intervention from me.  Eventually, it stopped so I synced and things appeared almost back to normal.  So I went for a walk.

When I returned, I synced again.  According to the information, I had now done some 3,000+ steps, walked for 35 minutes and used a total of 27 calories!  My rate showed as 0.8 calories per minute; my usual walking rate is above 5.5 calories per minute.  Indeed, I believe breathing uses more than 0.8 calories per minute!  The active minutes was showing 0.  No heart rate had recorded since I rebooted.  Later I completed a further walk; this time my 24 minutes recorded 19 calories, still 0 active minutes.  Yet it recorded yesterday as a successful exercise day!

I have subsequently rebooted again – no further change.  I have disconnected the Fitbit from my phone’s bluetooth but when I tried to connect it again, the screen is now showing the Fitbit symbol (flashing different blocks at a time and with horizontal stripes) with 001 showing below.  This doesn’t change even though I have now been disconnected from the charger for some time and yet the display continues.

I know my device is out of warranty as it was purchased late 2018 but I am desperate to know what (if anything) I can do to get it (and me) back on track.  I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Many thanks
