A friend got an apple smart watch.

Gave me charge HR

When sync it allows me to type 4 digit code i see on fit bit.

But after it just says connecting and spins. Never connecting

Was your friend around when you tried this? Is so, get them to "forget" any link to the fitbit in their phone's bluetooth settings as this could be blocking connection to your phone.
