Today I went for a run to the store. I paused the exercise while in the store then resumed when I finished shopping.
On reviewing my run I noticed that it was still tracking my GPS location even though it was paused. This is causing trouble in Strava as it adds extra distance and time, therefore messing up the stats.

Hey there @Boost01. Great to see you in the Fitbit Community Forums! 🙂
Thanks for bringing this up... I've never heard of a situation like this, so I'm not sure what could be causing it. What I can recommend at the moment would be to restart your tracker and try it out and see if pausing your exercise and resuming it later will improve.
You can do this by putting your tracker to charge. While it's charging, press and hold the button on your tracker for about four seconds. This will make the tracker to show the Fitbit logo and vibrate which means that your tracker has restarted.
Try it out and let me know if you notice any difference.

The issue isn't with the tracker, but with the way the data is stored. When i pause my activity, it set the "ns1:DistanceMeters2" attribute to 0, but keeps tracking my location. While active, it increments this for distance travelled.
I believe that because there is no distinction in the data between paused and not, Strava is giving false distance measurements, as it is looking at the GPS values. On a normal run this isn't an issue as I only pause at traffic lights, but on the rare occasion I need to do something part way through my run (like go shopping) it causes issues.

I’ve seen this issue too. I accidentally paused for 3km. The Fitbit displayed route shows the pause, but it seems Fitbit keeps tracking me while paused as Strava shows my entire route. I was not carrying my phone, so Strava only has FitBit data to work with and it was completely accurate in a way that there is no way they could have guessed (I took a weird route). I am concerned as this is a privacy issue since Fitbit is very clear they don’t track except while exercising, and yet they do. Sure this is a corner case but I expect many people believe the tracking stops while paused. Especially since the FitBit app hides the tracked data.
