Trying to get started again a Charge 3

I set my Fitbit Charge 3 aside 16 months ago, and am trying to get it started again. It appears to shake when plugged into the charger, but hasn't really come back to life after charging overnight. What steps should I take to try to revive it?

Hi, @SunsetRunner , like all rechargeable batteries, Fitbit batteries can be permanently damaged by a long period in deep discharge and may never recover.  Having said that I recently resurrected a Charge 2 after about 18 months unused (I couldn’t find it!) so you might be lucky.

The thing that might revive it is the restart procedure .  I would recommend trying that 2 or 3 times once the device has had a few hours on the charger and see if your Fitbit responds.  If it remains dead after trying the restart several times, then it probably is not going to come back to life.  But you might get lucky! Goog to see you participating for the first time in the community @SunsetRunner.

Thank you for taking the time to share the information regarding your Charge 3.

In addition to the helpful information provided by @Julia_G, I'd suggest you clean your device as indicated here: How do I clean my Fitbit device?

Sometimes devices are dirty due to time and use; this won't allow to receive charge. I hope you are lucky and can use your device.

Thanks @Julia_G for helping.

Julia_G,

Thanks for getting back to me. I've tried to follow the restart procedure. When I plug the Fitbit into the charging cable the screen remains blank, but when I hold the button down the Fitbit vibrates the entire time. I've tried the procedure three times. The screen on the device never lit up. When I went to the app, which had not been showing any steps today, it finally showed 22 steps - about what it took to walk from the kitchen back to my chair. But the phone cannot connect to the Fitbit to update the apps which are out of date.

While the Fitbit appears to have recorded steps yesterday (in the Fitbit app), it did not record any sleep information (I wore it all night). It's curious that the steps are transferred to the phone, while the phone indicates it cannot connect to the Fitbit.

Can you suggest any other steps I might take?

I appreciate the help!
