Unable to set up used Charge 2 - purchased on ebay

Hello All,

I am hoping someone can help. I purchased a Fitbit Charge 2 used on Ebay not even thinking about it not being reset. I received it yesterday and have tried all the trouble shooting I can find. I can not get the charge to reset it is still saying October 31 and todays date it March 21. I can not get it to pair with any device I have tried and apparently there is no factory reset option for this tracker!!!! What can I do has anyone else been able to solve this problem??? I have contacted the seller but she already told me in a previous email that she never used the bracelet but that she tested for functionality. It does show steps and heart rate etc. but its completely worthless if it cant pair up to my devices and apps.

Have you checked that the devices you tried are supported by fitbit at www.fitbit.com/devices ?

The time will sort itself out once you get it connected and synced.

Although there isn't a factory reset option there is a restart procedure that's worth trying:

  1. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
  3. Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display. Your Charge 2 will begin charging.
  4. Press and hold the button on your tracker for four seconds. When you see the Fitbit logo and the tracker vibrates, this means the tracker has restarted.
  5. Unplug your tracker from the charging cable.

It's worth doing this a few times as it sometimes doesn't work.

Can I just check that when you try to pair it with a device you are doing so via the fitbit app rather than the device's bluetooth settings.

Crock of Bull.... there IS a well-published procedure for doing a factory reset on the Charge 2.  Hard to do - step one is not well described on fitbit website.

1) plug in the charger and get a full charge.  2) While still connected to charger, press button once and the battery icon will come up. 3) Press again immediately and hold the button down.  wait two seconds and 4) disconnect the power cable whilst continuing to hold the button down.  5) Wait 5 seconds and release button, then immediately press and hold again.  6) Fitbit will flash something on the screen, so you again release, pause about 1 second, and press and hold again.  7) Do this with every change on the screen until it reads "ERASE" and 😎 when button is finally released, fitbit will shut down.

LET IT SIT FOR AN HOUR, UNPLUGGED.  Then plug in and the charging battery icon should appear.  Get it fully charged and then do the setup routine from a phone, tablet, or computer using the fitbit app.   NOTE - a successful factory reset will change the time to 0 - only way to know the process was successful.  If not, repeat the factory reset process until success.  The process uses a lot of battery power and the ERASE step may temporarily result in a seemingly dead device.

@Durham-user Welcome! Thanks for being part of our Community! Thank you for your input. I would like to clarify that there isn't a Factory Reset procedure for the Charge 2. Maybe you read the instructions for the Charge HR or original Charge tracker. Do you have any officially released documentation for this so the team can review it? The devices that do have this options are documented here.

Let me know how it goes!
