Washing machine incident.

Hi all,

I put my Charge 4 through the wash, & when it came out it was still working (faint display at first). It was in a fluffy dressing gown pocket, amongst towels, so quite well protected & it's currently sat in rice as a precaution, but on contacting the retailer for advice, they've said the spin cycle might have damaged it - Do you have any thoughts, please?

Hi, @Jdpwolf , I would say that it is really a wait and see! I think you are wise to have put it in rice, and I would recommend keeping it there for 72 hours or so before attempting a charge and then seeing how it goes.

Fitbits are definitely not designed to withstand machine washing (!) but I know many stories of Fitbits that have survived with little or no consequences, so you may very well be lucky!

Good luck, and let us know how it goes. Welcome to the forums!

Thank you. I appreciate the response. I've done a restart & so far, it's looking good, but I'll take your suggestion about 72 hours in the rice (Fitbit Paella, here we come 😅).
Thanks again. Julie

We Have Success! 😃💃🍾

Obviously, my Charge 4 liked its little trip in the washing machine, because 72 hours later it's amazing - no problems whatsoever.

At a guess, the fact it was tucked in the pocket of my dressing gown & surrounded by other thick cloth items, meant it was very well protected against any damage.

Thank you again for your help 😍

Hi, @Jdpwolf , I am super glad that your Charge 4 is back up and running and no worse for its trip through the washing machine.  If you found my response to you helpful I would be really grateful if you could mark it as the “best response” @and/ or give it a thumbs up.

Thank you, and keep stepping!

*edited to add, marking responses as a “best answer” makes it easier for others to find solutions to answers.  I always recommend 72 hours in rice, because one big mistake people can make is to try to charge before their Fitbit is fully dry, and, as we all know, electricity and water don’t mix well - often the early charging does the damage rather than the water (not to mention the banging about) alone…
