What am I doing wrong

I am a new Fitbit user and looking for some help. After getting my Fitbit I connected it to the charging cable, downloaded the app, followed the setup instructions etc but all I get is a black screen with a white loading/charging bar and occasionally a smiley face appears. I can’t even get the time up. Have I completely wasted my money on a device that doesn’t work?

Sorry you’re having these problems, @MK217 . Glad you found us on the forums. May I ask ... To which phone or device did you download the Fitbit app? Hopefully it’s on the list of supported devices. Once we know that, we can help troubleshoot.

I contacted the online chat support. Turns out my FitBit is defective and I have been given the returns address for a warranty replacement
