how do I get the date to show on my charge 3 clockface?

Try tapping the screen? with not knowing which face you have installed we won't be able to know. 

It might be that your current face doesn't have this option and you may need to choose another face.

My face shows steps on top, time in the middle and # of stairs on the bottom. Instead of the stairs, I would like the date. Is that possible?

As requested above, we need to know the name of the face. 

Or check the subscription for the face through your Fitbit app.

Sorry. I feel dumb. It is just the clock face that came with the charge 3. I have subscribed to anything.
