know how to log exercise duration and distance for walking  but it is possible to log step count taken by my iphone health app if I forgot to wear tracker

I think you will just have to log the appropriate distance to get the number of steps.  If you know stride length, you could calculate it, or just log your best guess for distance, and then adjust it up or down based on how many steps it credits for that.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

thank you.  I do know the distance and time.  My OCD personality just wants the step count to be  in my daily and and weekly stats.   Self imposed  shelter at home creates too much time to obsess.

I'm not sure if mobiletrac works with iOS, if it does this will be an option under Add Device.
