Most of my walking and/or running is done on a treadmill. I always set my exercise, so it starts tracking. My Fitbit ALWAYS shows less miles (as much as a mile less) than the treadmill read out. I would assume that the treadmill is correct, as it is determined by revolutions of the belt. I have my Fitbit set on auto for stride length. I don't know what my stride length is, and I don't know how to tell. This weekend I did an outside walk and I had Charity Miles, which determines by GPS. Fitbit was almost a mile and a half less.
Any suggestions?

f you hold hand rail with fitbit hand on treadmill, steps probably are not detected, leading to lower distance. If that is the case, you can try holding rail with only non-fitbit hand.
Else if you put tracker in pocket or pin onto clothing, you will get better step count, and thus distance, at the expense of heart rate data during that time.

I never hold the rail, unless I am transitioning from running to walking and even then, it is my right hand, not my left.

How do I measure and adjust stride length for my Fitbit device?
