My s I n just got a brand new charge 2 less then 2 months ago and it suddenly stopped working half way through the day. He was playing in a small pool when he noticed the screen was black and I cannot get it to turn back on. I have tried charging it and holding the side button to restart it multiple times with no luck.

Unfortunately, the Charge 2 is not waterproof (see: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1598.htm) and it may be water damaged. If so, charging it would not have helped.
It's worth putting it in a bag of dry rice for a day or two (the rice draws out the moisture) and then charging again but it doesn't sound good.
