Could it be that you are just learning how to use it, rather than being able to determine right away that it is "very buggy"?
Do you really mean settings button on the app, or on the Charge 3 itself?
Can't tell you anything about being unable to update without knowing where you are in the set up process, and what you are trying to update.

I can't think of any "settings" button on the app, but if knew what you are trying to set or update, might be able to help. If you just switched from a Charge 2, the app should be just the same, unless you hadn't used app for a while since it has been updated.

Hi Johnny
It is 7 months since I stopped using the Charge 2. However, I've updated the app and the device.
I see on some threads here that my phone needs iOS 13, however, the iPhone 6 does not use that version, latest is V12.4.4. Checking the app it appears to be up to date also.
Previous threads have noted the settings button missing, or invisible and fixed. However I don't see it at all.
What i'm trying to do is get the phone gps to connect to track my run/cycle/flight etc.
Any help really appreciated.
