i seem to have it connected and set up as far as my laptop is concerned but the device itself is only showing me a "download or update app" message.

@Odyssey13 , Thank you for your help.
@meganeK , Nice to see you here. Thank you for your information and efforts.
As our friend @Odyssey13 already mentioned, the Charge 4 can only be setup to your account with an Android or iOS device.
We have seen that in some cases the Charge 4 has synced with a Windows 10 PC/laptop. But we recommend to use a mobile device for better results.
Keep in mind, that your Charge 4 will save your records for the last 7 days after the last sync and 31 days in form of a summary.
So if possible, you could log into the Fitbit app on a supported device and sync.
See you around.

i set it up using someone else's iphone in the end.
it syncs to win10 just fine so will continue using my laptop. it's not practical to use someone else's phone to sync nor buy a whole new phone
seems stupid that this model is limited to only phones (and super up to date ones at that)

@meganeK glad your friend let you set up on their phone. Used to be people used desktop computers, but people want to do everything on their phones and fitness trackers are just part of it. Used to be family sent actual photographs that could be held in the hand, but now it's all text or on their social media. Changes happen over time. I'm just glad you found a way to keep moving with Fitbit.
