2 months out of warranty and it is useless with a dim display. And I just replaced the band that cracked.

try settings/brightness to auto.

factory hard reset:
For this my charge 3 was NOT linked to my phone since that was connected to my charge 4. Don't know if that matters.
Charger not connected to watch, on watch swipe to settings/about/"Clear user Data" and press that.
After that my charge 3 now discharges VERY slowly like it should.

After trying many not so obvious solutions, I tried your 1st suggestion "try settings/brightness to auto." And duh, it worked. I have no idea how it changed to dim but i'm grateful it's fixed.
