Calibration

Having to manually calculate my stride length is cumbersome, and I'm afraid inaccurate.  It would be nice if you added a calibration mode where it tells you to travel 1 mile or whatever length so you can get data let's say using treadmill.  As it stands my Fitbit is routinely .20 - .40 miles below actual value.  Using a treadmill walking I completed a mile in 17 minutes but my Fitbit didn't have the mile completed until almost 21 minutes.  That is a pretty large discrepancy.  I am using the Fitbit with an ankle strap for informational purposes it isn't on my wrist.

It's not that complicated.  You say .2 to .4 miles below actual value but you don't tell the distance.

Based on your time, try multiplying your stride length by multiplying by .81 (=17/21)

What value?  The treadmill said I went 1 mile in 17:43 and around 2209 steps taken.  Fitbit tells me it was 21:51 to complete the mile what is weird is the Fitbit says I took 53 more steps than the treadmill, but the mileage is lower.  I will try and determine my stride length using the 20 steps and measuring the distance then dividing to figure out the stride length in inches, but not sure how I can go about figuring out the running stride length from that.  Maybe the custom stride length will increase the accuracy of my Fitbit.

The treadmill tells you how many steps?  Really?

I gave you my suggestion but feel free to do it however you wish.

Yes, it came with a wireless pedometer which syncs to the treadmill. It is
a Horizon 751 treadmill.
