Why is it that the more steps I take, the more active minutes I have, AND the least amount of exercises done I lose LESS calories three days in a row at least that I have noticed??

I'm not sure if I understand what "lose less calories mean". Is this in relation to the amount of food calories consumed?
What does the daily calories burnt look like?
