Do different exercise modes impact calories?

Sometimes when I start a workout, I forget to hit finish at the end and notice later on that's it's still running! As far as I can tell, there is no way to edit afterwards but I'm wondering if it is awarding me more calories burned than it should?

In other words, if I'm sitting around in exercise mode, does it say more calories are burned than if I'm not on exercise mode? Or is it solely based on HR?

Bottom line: I want to make sure that if I forget to stop it, that I'm not getting inflated calorie numbers.

That should not affect daily calorie burn.

You can easily verify this for yourself:  When you are going to be sitting still, or even lying down, for a while, start an exercise session, then stop it before you get up.  Check the calories burned during that session.  I expect it will be close to your BMR, or perhaps a bit above,  rather than what you would be burning if you were actually doing that exercise.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
