Fitbit app deleting exercise

I have an inspire 2 that is linked to my app. It normally automatically records my swim but today it didn’t. So I added it manually. This appeared for a second but was then replaced by an automatic data set that must have been picked up by the Fitbit. This then disappeared. I’ve tried it multiple times but it will absolutely not let me record exercise for today. 

I’ve tried all the fixes about uninstalling and reinstalling the app, updating it, syncing the Fitbit etc but no joy.
