How to stop Inspire HR counting steps when doing physical activity while sitting down?

How do I stop Inspire HR counting steps while I sit down to practice guitar or percussion or doing other physical activity that requires movement but not steps?

I'm wearing it on my non-dominant (left) wrist and it's reasonably secure - but in a 30 minute practice session on different musical instruments - all while seated - it's counting >500 extra steps from my arm/hand movements. That's a big enough number that it's an issue for me.

I could just take it off while I practice but ideally - I'd like a way to have it continue tracking heart rate and other data - but exclude steps.

I wouldn't mind starting/stopping that manually in the same way I might manually start/stop an exercise session.

Is that possible?

Thanks.

Hi @SunsetRunner, congrats on learning Guitar!  I've recently taken up Ukulele, but I haven't experienced the same issue you have.  And yes, I wear my trackers on my non-dominant arm (left) as well.

I think there's an app called "Drive Bit" that may be able to help.  Once it's connected to your Fitbit (I don't use this app so I have no idea how it works), open the app when you're practicing and it will redact the steps accumulated during that time.  From what I hear, it's free.  Just keep the app open while in use.

If that doesn't work, you could always add it as "Driving" for an activity and it will redact the steps (so I'm told) as well.  As far as I know, you would need to keep the Fitbit app open during this time as well.

I know that neither of these ideas are ideal, but from what I've read, they do work.

Thanks for the reply - I'll take a look at the app.

Seems strange that after all these years - and so many people reporting similar issues of wrist-worn Fitbits counting sitting movement as steps - that there isn't a 'built in' solution for this?

Thanks.
