Inspire 2 step accuracy

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Inspire 2 is telling me I’m doing more steps than reality. It seems to register any movement of the arm as steps. This makes it look as if I have done more than reality and affects calories burnt etc.It logs small movements such as knitting, running hands through hair, arm gestures, raising arm.  Is there a sensitivity setting or a way to make it more accurate????

First be aware, extra steps do not affect calories burned or active zone minutes; they are calculated from heart rate.

Like any tracker worn on wrist, Fitbits do not really know what your legs are doing; they can only detect steps from the normal rhythmic swinging of the arms as in walking.  Though Fitbit does use filters to try to prevent this, some other motions can be detected as steps; and some steps might not be detected.  In most cases, these are relatively minor compared to full day's step totals.  There are a few cases where it can be a bigger factor, with continuing rhythmic arm/wrist motions, such as knitting, playing some musical instruments.  If these, such as knitting, seem to be a big factor for you, you might want to take off the tracker during these activities, perhaps using this time to charge your Fitbit.

The only sensitivity setting is which arm you are wearing it on, Wrist Placement -  dominant or non; that is to try to filter out more activities on dominant wrist, such as brushing teeth or hair.  I have no idea how much of a difference this setting actually makes.

For Fitbit's explanation, see

Why does my Fitbit device count extra steps?

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

The inaccuracy of counting steps using a device on your wrist is EXACTLY the reason that so many of us are disappointed with Fitbit for abandoning the Fitbit One.  That and the fact that the One DID count floors. My goal is STEPS so I want that stat to be accurate, whether I'm pushing a cart or carrying something!  (Not to mention I cannot stand to wear anything on my wrist.)

My One died a few weeks ago & I have been tracking steps with my iPhone (which has been fairly accurate in test walks) until the Inspire 2 came out.  I have been using Inspire 2 in On Clip mode & carrying my phone - for the two days I've had it, it has shorted me about 5% of the steps that my phone shows.  Sooooo - not so sure how accurate it is in Clip Mode when supposedly it DOES know what my legs are doing!

I have a Fitbit now for two weeks and I am finding out that the accuracy of the step count is incredibly inaccurate. Today for example it counted 13.000 steps, while my Google device, which I testes fairly accurate counted 4.000 steps. This seems more accordingly to my day.

The problem seems to be in the cycling and especially when I am cycling on brick roads where my steer is rapidly going up and down.

I don't want to take my Fitbit off because it does count as exercise (heart rare is high enough and worth measuring) but it mixes up the steps completely. What can I do? Or can I adjust the steps manually directly after I get of my bike?

I just activated my Inspire 2 today.  I too had a One and loved that I could wear it on my bra instead of my writs.  I do not see how to change it to clip.  I have scrolled through every screen on the face of it and do now see an option for Wrist/Clip.
