Inspire HR - Heart Rate Inaccurate Even After Resetting

Hi, the heart rate on my Inspire HR is not accurate.

 

I have been wearing it consistently for almost a week now, and my resting heart rate is 86. Even when I am sitting (even DURING the RELAX technique from the Inspire!!) my heart rate is almost always showing as between 90-100.

 

Last night, I searched the forum and did the following:

  • Cleared the data from the Settings app on my Inspire HR
  • Reset the Inspire HR
  • Turned off the Heart Rate Tracking and then turned it back on

This did seem to make a difference - my heart rate was showing as 70, the lowest I have seen it since I started using my Inspire HR. HOWEVER, after sleeping last night (and removing the HR while sleeping), I have noticed today that it has reverted back to the inaccurate and extremely high heart rate. 

 

I tested it on my boyfriend as well, and he also registered as a high heart rate. He is a nurse and a medical professional, and also says that this is extremely inaccurate. 

 

Please let me know what to do here - should I be exchanging it for a new one? The only reason I wanted the Inspire HR was for the heart rate monitoring.

Adding reply to say: I just followed the same process as above AGAIN, and even though I am sitting (no physical activity whatsoever), my heart rate is showing as 100. I am going to take this device back and exchange it, this is ridiculous.

My new fitbit IHR showed overly high HR, after it showed a 100+ HR  peak after walking up a hill. It persisted displaying the higher rate for a few minutes, and then began to slowly  start to move down towards my real HR in the 70-80 range. It took 5+ minutes to start tracking properly. 

Maybe I had the band too loose? Not sure. I did move it around, when I noticed the error.

I've noticed that these kind of sensors don't work as well on older people (I'm 74).  So that could be my bug..  Cheers

My best advice is to move on. 

And I mean move on from Fitbit.

I've had about seven different devices. Only one lasted over a year. A year and two months. All the others were trash before a year was up.

The latest one, the Inspire HR.

It worked fine for about six months and then the heart rate started messing up. Spiking during exercise and staying at 175 bpm or so.

I do low heart rate training and always keep my heart rate at or below 133 during my morning runs but after six months it started messing up.

Long story short. I've gotten six months use out of it. Several runs have been ruined because of the device. Then I get to spend half an hour on live chat with fitbit while the reps have me try to reset the device eight times and telling me I must be wearing the thing wrong. Yes, I was wearing it for six months no problem, now all of a sudden I'm wearing it on my shoulder. I'm that dumb.

So after it finally actually resets, I get to see if it works.

Again, run ruined.

So I have to spend another thirty minutes with a rep asking me to reset the thing and again telling me I could be wearing it wrong.

So after wasting all that time, And having several runs ruined, I get sent a replacement.

Great! 

I get to wait ten days and can't use the device I purchased so more runs ruined.

and then I get a replacement in the mail.

I get sent just the little face, which is fine, I change the band, etc.

And I'm happy it's working.

For a week.

And it's the same thing as the one it was replacing.

More runs ruined.

This time I get to spend an hour with a rep asking me to reset the replacement. Over and over again.

And AGAIN. telling me I could be wearing it wrong. Or, you know, the weather. 

And finally I'm sent an email to order a replacement.

So I get to wait another ten days for another probably refurbished and useless device that's going to ruin more runs.

 

I've already ordered a Garmin.

 

My advice to everyone.

Stay away from Fitbit.

Seriously.

I have an old Timex Ironman watch I bought at Walmart for 15 dollars nine years ago that works exactly the same today as the day I bought it.

Fitbit can't get a $110 watch to work for more than six months.

 

Sorry for the long reply, but if you're thinking of trying to get it replaced, just know you'll be spending a lot of time getting the run around and the replacement will probably by just as faulty.

I've found the Resting HR data in the app very useful. Since it can be used with the sleep chart. So, I'm going to hang on to this one for a while longer. It's been really close or right-on in reporting the correct HR most of this week. I've been hitting the 10,000 step goal about 3 days a week, and I'm finding that goal is a good motivator.
