Inspire HR lost steps after syncing

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Synced Zip, removed Zip (stopped syncing) from iPhone Fitbit app, added Inspire HR, logged over 10,000 steps, synced w/app, steps reverted back to 8,000.

Removed (stopped syncing) Inspire HR from app, added Inspire HR again, completed set up, watches Fitbit app count steps as I walked the room. Accumulated 2 hrs more steps, synced w/app and step count reverted back to 8000 again!

JUNK just like the ZIP!!!!!!

@mjh The fact that you can see steps ticking in your app when you walk the room does not mean the data has been synced. It only means that fitbit app acts like an interface. the tracker is connected at that moment and the app works as an extended display. So if you removed your tracker before or in the middle of the sync that would explain why you lost part of the data. Honestly, I am not sure why you would even want to unlink the tracker from your account (remove it from the app). This is rarely a good idea. Next time make sure the data actually synced. You can either tap on the Inspire icon in the fitbit app and scroll to sync section to check for the sync date stamp, or even better go to fitbit.com and check the last sync status. Dashboard on Fitbit.com reflects the most current data that was synced to Fitbit servers. FYI, data is not stored locally on your phone (in your fitbit app) but in the cloud on fitbit servers.

Unlinked per Fitbit support. Steps were synced. Accumulated steps in the Inspire. Opened Fitbit app. Watched the device sync. New steps were added correctly, then as I was watching, the steps rolled back to previous synced number of steps, then transferred that incorrect number of steps BACK TO THE INSPIRE. Bad app or bad device. Either way lost my data. Not my error. This is as bad as every Zip I’ve ever owned.

Hi, @mjh , this is a problem that sometimes arises with more than one tracker attached to your account.  You can certainly have both the Zip and the Inspire on the same account, and you should not need to remove one of them when you switch -- although for Android users there is currently a bug that means some Fitbits that *should* be working together do not...  However, this is only in the set up.  If you are able to set up your Inspire on the same account as your Zip, then you should definitely not remove one or the other in order to switch back and forth between them, as @Marrrmaduke correctly advises.

The most important thing to do when you have more than one Fitbit on a single account, and wish to switch between them, is to be sure to sync both devices before you switch from one to another.  Make sure that both devices show the same number of steps before you put on the other device.  Obviously you cannot do this if you have removed one of the devices!  I expect that Customer Support misunderstood and believed that you were having a set up issue...

So, for example, if you wear your Zip from 9-1 while at work, and, say, accumulate 4000 steps, then decide you would like to wear your Inspire for a lunch time walk:

1. Sync your Zip to your Fitbit account.  Check that your 4000 steps show in the app, and that when you check the time and date of your Zip sync (click on the icon in your app) it shows it synced.

2. Sync your Inspire.  Check that it shows on the Inspire the 4000 steps shown in your app.  If it doesn't, sync again.  If you don't see the steps on the Inspire before you swith, you may lose steps, just as you describe.

3. Once both Fitbits and your app agree on the step number it is safe to switch.

You don't absolutely have to follow this procedure -- it often works if you don't do the full sync of both trackers before switching, but if you don't there is a chance that you will "lose" steps, as has happened in your case.

I hope this helps!  Please post again if I have misunderstood the situation, or if anything else is unclear.

I do NOT have 2 devices active at the same time.

It it is NOT my fault.

I move over from the Zip to the Inspire HR because of sync issues, battery issues, lost step issues.

This is is as bad if not worse.

I’m done with Fitbit.

Shopping for for an Apple Watch.

Hi, @mjh , I don't think any one is remotely suggesting that this is "your fault"!

It is prefectly acceptable to have two devices active on your account at the same time -- Fotbit is designed to make that possible.  I do myself, and I think many others have two or more devices.  Please do not worry -- that is absolutely fine.

I think we are just trying to help you manage how to work two devices at the same time, if that is what you want.

I want this inspire to work.

Only device. Nothing else.

Not too much to ask.

Clearly that’s not going to happen.

Keeps failing. Will not reconnect.

I was also told I need to delete all other bluetooth devices. As they may interfere. Seriously?  All my other devices get along ok.

Bad fitbit app? Bad device? I don’t know but I can tell you they’re worthless if they won’t work!

@mjh Could you please clarify if the Inspire is still linked with your Fitbit account? Can you still see it in the Fitbit mobile app? Which iOS version are you running?

The same thing happened to me after the latest firmware update. I lost about 700 steps when I synced my Fitbit Inspire HR to my phone - very annoying. I tried the basic troubleshooting steps such as restarting the tracker (I also restarted the phone), but the problem persisted. I'm hoping Fitbit will continue to improve on the software, since a tracker that cannot properly count steps is hardly a tracker...

I am having the same issue. Logged my steps and changed devices to do yard work. When I was done I logged my steps and both devices switched to a different number. Resetting the Inspire HR it shows what seems to be the correct amount, but when I try to sync it goes back to the other amount. I am starting to think this purchase was a huge mistake.
