Inspire HR stops tracking during workouts

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Today I have had two different but equally irritating issues with a brand new (1 week old) Inspire HR:

  1. I went for a run. I tracked this using the Fitbit as I was running. During my run, the Inspire display showed entirely reasonable numbers - heart rate 167, max HR 176, and at the end told me my total calorie burn was 258 for a 28-minute run, which all made perfect sense. Later on, when I synced with my account, my log for the day showed no calorie burn at all until around 10:30 am (I started my run at 8:41am) and told me I'd burned 24 calories during my run.
  2. I went to the gym and lifted weights starting at 9:53 am. About 10 minutes in, I looked down at my watch to see my heart rate and discovered it had just stopped tracking the exercise, as if it decided on its own my workout was over. I thought maybe I hit the button by accident, started tracking again, and continued. 22 minutes later it did the same thing, and I definitely did not hit the button by accident this time. At 10:30 I started it again, and that's when apparently all my activity for the day actually started, according to my Fitbit. I just tried to include a screenshot of my Fitbit dashboard that shows baseline/sleeping calorie burn (no movement) until 10:30am, but something is going wrong with the interface.

This should not be happening with a brand new device. Please advise. Prior to this I owned a Charge HR for nearly 3 and a half years and had it not been for the thing physically falling apart I would still be using it - it did not pull these sorts of shenanigans on me.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community @skoller1216😊

Let me give you a hand with the issues that you're reporting with your Fitbit Inspire HR.

First, thanks for the details that you're sharing on your post. It looks odd that your 28 mins. run is not being reflected on the Fitbit Dashboard. I'd suggest to restart your Fitbit with these instructions and give it a try for another run and then try to sync again to confirm that this is working properly. You can manually add your run so you don't loose those steps and calories.

About your gym activity, I'd suggest to check the position of the Fitbit Inspire HR on your wrist since as you mentioned, sometimes while working out we might pause the activity with the button.

Thanks for trying to attach the screenshots, next time you can follow the steps here. That'd be really helpful. I understand how you feel, since you've been a Fitbit owner for long time.

Let's try those steps and keep me posted on the resolution.

I am having the same exact issues as the previous post. I’ve tried the tips above but it seems like a problem with the device.

When the Fitbit stops tracking the exercise on its own, I’ve just been going in and adjusting the time of the workout manually in the app.

But I attached screenshots of a 1 hour high intensity bootcamp workout I did but it only tracked 38 active minutes of a workout. This can’t be correct. The Fitbit recorded the exercise from 10-11:01 but only logged 38 minutes of exercise.

I tried rebooting it again and can update if it keeps occurring.

Hi @VanessaDelMuro, thanks for getting back. My apologies for the delay.

Thanks a million for explaining what is happening with your Inspire HR while performing your workouts. I didn't get the screenshots you mentioned. Maybe you can give it a try with these steps.

While you're doing your bootcamp activity, did you notice if your Fitbit was actually recording? I was just wondering if at some point of the activity your clothing or any other thing might have been touched the screen to pause the activity.

Where you using the option Connected GPS? So we can check if this is not something related to satellite signal interrupting the activity. What other activity have you tried?

I'll be around.

I am having the same problem. I will start tracking workout which currently is walking or biking, then I look down a few minutes into the exercise and it's displaying the time and not tracking anything. So I start tracking again and a few minutes later again it has stopped tracking there is nothing touching the screen or the button. I am connected to GPS so a satellite stopping the tracking?

I’m having the same issue but after I active the ‘workout’ from my Fitbit (I use workout as I horse ride and there isn’t an option for that), I look down and 5 minutes later it has stopped, then I sync and it has also auto recognised it as a run. I made sure that my Fitbit was not touching anything bar my wrist today, still happened. Fed up of restarting it for it to never work, shouldn’t have to restart before every riding lesson.  Has to be a fault with the devise... nothing else is working.

I finally went to get support through their chat function. I think they're going to replace it. I hope it's not a common problem with the Inspire HR.  If it is, I will return and get the Charge.  My husband has one and has had no problems.

I've been having the same problem sporadically for months. I went through support and they said "This is a known issue that we are currently working on and we will not be able to replace the device "

The only resolution they communicated: "I recommend using the smart tracking feature for the device in the time being and look out for the next available update"

I am unable to track "weights" workouts reliably and this is very frustrating.

To be honest, you just get used to it after awhile.

edit: since the most recent update, I have not once had this issue.

I to am having trouble with my fibit inspire hr tracking my full aerobic workout.  When I workout an hour it records 38 to 50 minutes.  when I would out  for 85 minutes it only records 50 minutes of this.  it is frustrating.  I have already tried all that you suggested and it still does not make a difference.  I have even reset the watch.  then next time i exercised it did record 58 of the 60 minutes (which was good), but the next session of 85 minute workout it only recorded 38 minutes.  this is frustrating.
