Inspire for Kids

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I got two of my daughters an Inspire each and the youngest an Ace 2. I am unable to setup the Inspire's using child accounts attached to my account. Are there any plans to fix this (frankly ridiculous) limitation and  allow trackers other than the Ace to be setup for kids' use? If not, I will return all three for a refund.

Hi @dob99 it's because of COPPA (in the USA)and other laws across the world, children are prohibited from having an online account and using these devices. The Ace series was made especially to allow children six and up to use these services. Fitbit is abiding by those laws, so your daughters can't use the Inspire unless you lie about their age. Lying about age would create a problem since the algorithms are made based on gender, age, height and weight. So that would give completely wrong data for your girls. It is your decision if you want to alter their ages in order to use the Inspire.

I understand the need to restrict the account they can use. However, there seems to be no reason to restrict the device. The Inspire and Ace would appear to be very similar in features. It just seems to me (and others from what I've read) that Fitbit are artificially restricting people from making use of these devices for their kids.

When researching which models to buy, I saw nothing in any documentation that said any device was unsuitable for children - only that Ace was designed for children. Nothing said that a child couldn't legally use an Inspire.

I don't see any technical reason why the Fitbit app can't apply the same restrictions to data gathered from an Inspire as it does from that gathered from an Ace.

@dob99 Per the Fitbit Terms of Service, children under the age of 13 are not permitted to directly use the Fitbit service. Fitbit Ace and Ace 2 are uniquely designed to instead use a family account, allowing parents to monitor their children's data and control who they can connect with in the app. You can read more here.
