Hi, I am looking into buying an Inspire for the main purpose of seeing my mileage when running right away. I was wondering if my phone's GPS has to be turned on for the mileage to work or can it still tell me without the GPS on.

To get GPS mileage, phone's GPS must be on.  Otherwise it will calculate approximate mileage by multiplying number of steps times stride length.

 

The Ionic is the only Fitbit that has built-in GPS.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
