I would like my FitBit to show time as a 24hr clock format, is there a way to do this please?

Yes, you can do that.  It has to be done from the fitbit.com dashboard.

See How do I change the time on my Fitbit device?

Being thick obviously!! Do you mean from my FitBit app? What is the ‘gear icon’ that it mentions in the instructions?
I am using an iPhone if that makes a difference

Not from the fitbit app, but from a web browser logged into fitbit.com.  I'm on a desktop and at the top right of this screen is the clickable word "Dashboard" which takes me there.  I'm not sure if it is the same on cell phone.  If don't see "dashboard", try logging into fitbit.com from a web browser.  There will be an icon near top right that looks like a gear.
