I've just now started receiving notifications on my phone that read "Notification required for phone-based step features. Fitbit cannot accurately use your phone's pedometer without a foreground notification". I've used the exercise tracker for walking and spinning, but not in the days that I've been getting this message. What's it all about and what do I need to do?

Hi @KathyMT nice to see you on the Fitbit Forums, welcome!
Thanks for reporting the message that you're getting from Fitbit. Where are you able to see this message? Are you getting it on the Fitbit app? or On the push notifications on you phone? Also, please let me know what model of phone you're using to sync.
In the meantime, you can try to force quit the Fitbit app if you keep getting this message.
Keep me posted.

Actually, I never received the notification again despite doing nothing. Still not sure what it was about.

I just got this message tonight on my new Google Pixel phone that I have had for a week. I have a Charge 2 & a One. Both have been synching just fine until today. The Charge 2 still does but the One synched this morning & I haven't been able to get it to sync since then. The One is much more accurate for me. I periodically go to the nearby high school track to check the accuracy of both & the One wins every time. I have never liked wearing a tracker on my wrist. When I got that message tonight I didn't have a clue about what I should do to solve the problem.

I have finally figured out something that works for me. Since my One is 10 years old I assumed it is dying a slow death since the battery can't be replaced. But I try to keep it charged so sometimes I'm doing that more than once a day. I discovered that while it is plugged in to the recharger I push the button on it & keep it pushed in for maybe a whole minute. It will go black & at that point I was thinkiing it was dead for sure but after a minute or 2 it finally shows the software that it is using. This happened a couple of weeks ago & it has been synching multiple times a day since then, even when I'm in the car or out walking around. And the Charge 2 steps always update to the One, not the other way around. I hope this works for you.

I also just noticed that it's staying in the top bar and stays there all day. When this upgrade was done it needed to be thought through a little better.

Go to settings on your phone then apps. Find the Fitbit app & click force stop. This fixed the issue for me
