This is the second fitbit inspire HR that I have had and both have had screen issues. My device can wake if the button is pressed, by raising hand but not by tapping the screen. It seems that after waking the device by a button press or raising hand the screen tap then seems to work briefly. After a few seconds its back to not being able to wake.
I have tried:
- restarting the device by plugging it into the charge cable and holding the side button for 8 seconds
- I have performed a hard reset by wiping data and setting it up again
- I have tried changing clock face to the simple stats, analog and back again
What else is there? Seeing the number of posts about this on the forums and online leads me to believe these devices and it's software are poorly engineered. I do not want to return this device only to get ANOTHER problematic one.

I just got my Inspire HR yesterday, set it up, and am having the same issue. Moving my arm & tapping the screen don't do anything. This is my first Fitbit - this is really discouraging that out of the box it doesn't work as intented.

I am having the same issue. Is there to fix this? The screen does not wake up if I tap it or raise my arm.
Only when I press the side button and my screen wake is on.

Hi Jasmine,
I had the same problem. I sent it back in for a replacement and guess what? The new one had exactly the same problem. I even had a fitbit tech say thats how this actually works which is a bit silly. Either way I don't know what the problem is and they won't acknowledge or fix it.

Yes I also have the same issue. And after reporting it, the Fitbit team just asked about my details to check the warranty meaning they would replace it, which would not fix the issue. There are so many posts and reports about this and they just try to keep it quiet but it’s pretty obvious it’s faulty - whether it’s software or hardware. It’s a shame because overall it’s such a good product, if only they would admit this and fix it for all!

I had this same issue on my new Inspire2. I realized that "Sleep" was turned on. As soon as I turned it off, I was able to turn on "Screen wake" mode.

A little research leads me to believe the Inspire and Inspire HR are both faulty. One of my friends has a Charge 3, and it has no screen problems. Another has a Versa Lite, and the screen wake works just fine. If you want screen wake to work, I recommend getting one of the Charge models.

Hi! If you haven’t yet, verify that your screen wake is on, that may be the issue. Hold the button and scroll to the little lightbulb and tap. That’s what helped me!

How do you turn on the screen wake mode?
Thank you! I accidentally had the screen wake off, did what you suggested & it’s working now.

Press and hold the button on the side (like you were checking your battery). The lightbulb icon below the battery controls this feature.

If you try holding down the side button, a screen will appear. Scroll down on that screen to the light bulb that is labeled "Screen Wake". Tap on that display so the light bulb lights up. This might have accidentally been clicked before without you knowing. I have an Inspire so I don't know if this will work with an Inspire HR.
I hope this helps 🙂

Just chiming in--my problem with screen wake was precisely because I had "sleep" on. Unfortunately, it isn't really clear (intuitively) whether a function is on or off. If you see a "grayed out" icon for the function, it is "off". If you tap it, the function and icon "light up."
Woulda been a whole, whole lot clearer if the icon said "Screen wake ON" or "Screen wake OFF"!

So glad I finally got to post an answer that helped rather than a question about something stumping me! Yeah, I don't know about Fitbit. I had a Versa which I bought in mid-2019. Strap punched out 11 mos into 1 year warranty. They sent me another one, which lasted about a year. Replacement band from Fitbit was like $30 or so. Tried twice to get replacement bands on Amazon, neither worked -- they were not remotely close to fitting. So I bought the Inspire, which on sale was like 84 dollars, or thereabouts. I like the smaller size, but it appears they've throttled back the screen brightness, probably to prolong battery life. Still have the Versa, so if anyone knows of an aftermarket supplier of bands that ACTUALLY FIT, let me know.

I just got a new band, and I guess while switching bands I inadvertently turned off the wake screen. Took lots of searching in the online forum to find the solution. Would be nice if Fitbit would put these kinds of simple details in the "How to Use" tab on the app. Basic instruction, yet I had to spend so much time to figure it out.
