The Inspire is too sensitive

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The Inspire is way too sensitive.  It logs steps and activity even when driving.  I have it set for my dominant  hand while wearing on my non-dominant to reduce the sensitivity.  I now take it off my wrist when driving and today it logged 30 minutes of activity when driving into work sitting in my console.  I'm not driving down dirt roads.  As far as Fitbit is concerned driving counts as exercise.  Do I need to shut off the exercise auto-detect?  Will this help?  What I'd really like to see is the ability to shut the Inspire off.  I'm regretting the $100 I spent.

I have the same issue! First two days it logged about 50 training sessions, can for sure tell you I’m not that active 😉 Then I switched off the auto tracking and it got better but still not solved. Also counting steps doesn’t work as it should - I don’t have 40 steps from the toilet to the sink 😯

Annoiyng to have a one week old Fitbit that you can not use as expected! Fitbit - can you help or do I need to return my device?

Hello @dwright1969 and @Jenny_83, welcome to the Community forums.

I'm sorry to see that you've been having trouble with the extra steps recorded. Unfortunately it is expected device behavior at the moment to count steps during a driving activity; currently  there's not a Driving Mode feature to avoid these erroneous steps, however, I do recommend that you vote for this idea posted in the Feature Suggestion board of the Community, this is helpful for the team of developers.

To delete the extra steps recorded, you would need to manually log the driving activity, to override data tracked during that period of time. As explained here

It is also possible that the device will count some steps while performing other activities, but the number should not be exaggerated. Remember the device tries to give you credit for all movements throughout the day.  You can find more information in this article: How accurate are Fitbit devices?

I hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions.

Hi @DavideFitbit thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, counting steps is not my biggest problem, rather that it starts training sessions randomly on all times of the day. Sure, it would have been nice to do some exercise while sitting by the computer at the office or even during night sleep 😉 but I’m expecting my Fitbit to give a truthful tracking of my movements. Also, what is the explanation for Fitbit starting tracking training even when the auto tracking is swithced off for all kinds of activities?

I have the same issue. Driving to work and back gives me hundreds of inaccurate steps and it always thinking I’m going outdoor biking!

I have found a way to deduct the steps by adding driving as exercise but that’s so hard and really annoying to keep on top of if you’re driving a lot through various times of day...

Don’t really know how I can resolve this any other way?? 😩

Thank you for your replies @Jenny_83  and @Bethanyp, it is possible that continuous movement could be tracked as a different activity. However, the amount of workout sessions should not be exaggerated. Could you please try to restart your Inspire devices and check if you continue to experience the same behavior?

Hello @DavideFitbit, yes I have restarted, changed clock face, disabled auto tracking for all activity types and switched off the screen wake function, Fitbit still keeps tracking exercises automatically.

Hey Davide, thanks for the feedback, but I don’t see how the Fitbit tracking steps while driving is considered expected device behavior when that’s not something that occurred with my Fitbit Charge HR nor my Charge HR 2. The performance of both devices was consistent. I never had to worry about gaining 3000 extra steps while in my car. And now all of a sudden it’s an issue after purchasing the Inspire? That seems odd to me. What’s changed between those devices and the inspire?

Same problem here! I got my band a few days ago as a gift to try to know more about and improve my sleeping, but I’m struggling to adopt it because the screen goes on when I move and bothers me so much. I was expecting to have some “quiet hours” settings to predefine when the clock shouldn’t light on but it only has the “screen wake”. I am “ok” to activate and deactivate it every night but it still randomly lights on... I am not wearing at night anymore as a consequence... what a pity!

I'm having a similar problem. My inspire HR thinks I'm exercising constantly throughout the day. If I do anything slightly physical, or am having a great conversation, the Fitbit reads my heart rate as 2 X what it actually is and starts an exercise routine. Then, moments later, it tries to prompt me to keep exercising

I think that when my heart rate is even a little activated, the Inspire is reading both the diastolic and systolic heart beats, and is reading each beat as 2 beats. I have taken my heat rate manually while doing light exercise, and it is always being read as doubled what it is in reality.

Thank you for confirming that you already tried all the suggested steps @Jenny_83. I've gone ahead and sent your information to the Customer Support team for further assistance, so you should be getting a reply soon.

Welcome to the Community forums @Jamila_F, it's expected that the Fitbit device will count some steps during a driving activity, since it doesn't recognize it automatically, however, as mentioned previously, the amount of steps recorded should not be exaggerated (3000 steps for a very short drive for example). If you haven't done so already, I do recommend that you also vote for this idea posted in the Feature Suggestion board of the Community

Thank you for all the information provided @Ryefield, could you please confirm if you already tried the steps suggested here as well?

Let me know if you have further questions.

I logged my driving as you stated.  It reduces my steps but since it is a 30 minute drive my Fitbit now shows that I met my daily exercise goal.  These workarounds are ridiculous for a $100 device.  I don't expect 100% accuracy but this is too much.  This device needs a driving or off mode.  I regret the money that I spent.

I see there are other users having issues with the steps counting incorrectly.  They are double the amount of steps over another tracker I borrowed from a friend and my iphone app.  I get 500 steps added when driving 30 minutes!  I've restarted several times, changed to the dominant hand while wearing on non-dominant.  I think I've done everything I can.

When I previously had the flex, there were no issues with  I like the idea of the Inspire, but am ready to return it and go to the garmin my friend has because the flex doesn't track correctly.

Me too. Mine logs over 1,000-2,000 steps in every 15 minute freeway drive. I restarted it.  I switched it to dominant hand. I emailed with Customer Service- who told me the exact same things to fix it. I don’t think I should have to manually delete ghost steps every time I drive. Not cool FitBit, not cool at all!

I am having the same problem

Clocked up over 200 steps driving to work...also counts steps when I move my arm

------------

I still have my Garmin vivo step counter am I'm wearing them both to see the difference the Garmin has been quite accurate I just prefer the fitbit app.

The difference at the moment is approximately 400 steps.the Garmin is sitting on 1098 and the fitbit is sitting on 1545

Absolutely ridiculous I've only had it for 2 days so I will be returning it

Same here. I love the Fitbit app and the challenges, which is why I keep buying fitbits. But if I can’t compete fairly what’s the point in having it? I may have to go back and buy a used Charge 2.

Thank you for sharing your feedback @dwright1969, as mentioned earlier, unfortunately at the moment there is no Driving mode to prevent the tracker from counting steps during this activity, though some user have mentioned being able to resolve by putting the device to charge while driving to avoid the extra step count. Also, if you haven't done so already, I do recommend that you also vote for this idea posted in the Feature Suggestion board of the Community.

Thank you for your feedback as well @amyjude@ALup, @Shannon247, as it was mentioned in a previous comment, unfortunately it is expected device behavior at the moment that the tracker will count steps during a driving activity. You would need to log the driving activity manually to override the data tracked during this time.

I'm sorry to see you've been having trouble with the accuracy @Shannon247,  besides the steps recorded while driving, it is possible that you will get a few steps during the day for other type of movements, since the tracker tries to give you credit for all activity throughout the day, but that shouldn't affect your daily totals. Have you tried the suggestions mentioned in this article

Thank you for your feedback @Jamila_F , are you referring to steps recorded during a driving activity, or while performing other activities?

Let me know if you have further questions.
