Using Inspire in clip on mode

I plan to purchase an Inspire to replace a lost One.  Two questions

  • Why is there a clip on mode setting.  Will the step count  be inaccurate if the  Inspire is clipped on without changing to clip on mode.
  • I prefer to attach the clip holder to a carabiner device hooked to my belt. This saves wear and tear on the Fitbit clip holder.  However, the Fitbit can now swing loosely from the carbiner.  Will this attach mode affect the accuracy of the step count.

Thank you

Hi, @deasun , Fitbit uses a slightly different algorithm (instructions to computer program) depending on whether the device is worn on the wrist or on the body.  All Fitbits will count steps whether you wear it on the wrist or in a pocket, etc, but to get the most accurate account it is best to change mode from on wrist to on body, and vice versa, depending on how you are wearing it.  The "switch" is on the device itsef, and just takes a swipe and a tap to alter.

If the Fitbit is swinging loosely in a caribiner, it is possible that it may pick up a few extra steps.  I think this is unlikely to be significant unless the swing is quite vigorous.  In that case you might want to use the "on wrist" mode even when on your body.  I personally prefer to secure mine inside a pocket, so that in the unlikely event that it falls out of the clip -- which I guess could be more likely if it is swinging -- it falls into a pocket.  If you wore your One in this way, I think you would find the results from the Inspire similar.

You can do a quick accuracy test by wearing your Fitbit normally, going outside, and walk 100 steps, counting as you go, amd checking what your Fitbit measures -- since Fitbits are designed to be 95 % accurate your steps should show 95 - 105 steps for every 100 walked.

I hope this helps.  Welcome to the forums!

I cannot find the "clip on" mode setting. Where is it on the Inspire HR?

Hi, @redrocklobster , the clip mode setting is not available on the Inspire HR.  It is available on the Inspire (without HR feature).

The new Inspire 2 has both a wrist mode and a clip mode and clip that fits it is available as an accessory.

Having said that, there is nothing to stop you from slipping it off your wrist and tucking it into a pocket, etc. in situations when you prefer not to have it on your wrist.  Although it is optimised for wrist wearing it will still give you a reasonably accurate step count.  If you are not wearing it on your wrist I would recommend switching off the heartrate detectors, which you can do from the settings section on the watch.

I hope this helps.
