Algorithm change in last firmware upgrade?

I'm helping a friend understand why her weight loss has plateaued. We're looking at her data from her Versa 2.

We see a step-change in her calorie burn around July last year (2021).

Average calorie burn

When we look at the period before and after July last year, the average step count, distance and sedentary minutes are the same both before and after. The lightly active minutes are similar. But the fairly active and very active minutes are different, being more before July and less afterwards.

If this was real, it would help explain what we see with her weight. However, she reports no change in her routine or activity levels since well before July last year all the way through to today (April 2022).

So, I'm wondering if this step-change in the data is actually due to an algorithm change that occurred in the firmware release around the same time. In other words, have you changed the way the device works out active minutes and overall calories?

(I tried to insert a picture of the chart, but couldn't get that working)

Thanks for responding. I don’t need to know anything about the details of the algorithm. But are you allowed to tell me if the algorithm changed in the last firmware release in summer 21, without revealing any details? Could the observed step-change be due to an algorithm change?
All I’d like is a yes/no. I don’t need any details.
Thank you.

Hello @JonBellis and welcome to the Community.  I’m sorry that your image couldn’t come through.  My only observation is that all of Fitbit’s algorithms are proprietary.  Fitbit never shares this information.  Sorry.

@JonBellis   Community Council members aren't Fitbit employees.  I have no way of knowing about algorithm changes.  Sorry.
