Brand New FitBit Versa - step count error when set up - tried setting up 2x

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

After set up displays I have 2573 steps and I never took 1 step. I tried resetting the device from Factory Reset and the same number of steps showed up. If  I dont see a fix for this I will return in the next few days if FitBit does not offer an explanation as to why this is happening and what the fix is. This is my first FitBit and right out the box I have a serious bug because steps is factored in other activities like calories.

I've had many other fitbit devices since 2011. I received the VERSA today. Not only did it take almost 3 hours to set up (because it wouldn't connect, or kept freezing while trying to update) but I was rewarded 880 steps and 1497 calories in that time. 😕 I know, I shouldn't complain as it's no where near as bad as others I've been seeing, yet, after so many devices, this is the only one I've had the mystery step issue on.

I have been using mine since May with no issues.  I love it!  4 nights ago it started with the crazy steps.  I wear it at night to track my sleep, so the issue is not the charger.  I woke up to 16k steps!  Unless I was abducted by aliens during the night, I don't know what the cause could be.  Each morning since, I have woken up with 9k, 3k, ...steps.   They are sending a replacement, so hopefully it does not have the same issue.

Unfortunately the Versa and Ionic models are very much broke inside.  It's a firmware thing.  They were like this right from their day of release (just over a year for the Ionic).  For a bit more detail on the firmware connection see:

Functions can and do work.  But it's always temporary, with reset, factory reset, software re-install, bluetooth and wifi reconnect and multiple exchange watches doing a sterling job of making you think all is well again.  It's not.
