Calories burned messed up

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I don't wear the watch at night.  Every morning I start with 0 steps and anywhere from 600---2000 calories.  I called support and they gave me the most ridiculous answer to why this is happening.  I honestly think the guy was on drugs when he gave me his response.

It seems like the calories should be 0 just like steps when you start the day.

As well as tracking calories burned through activity your fitbit also tracks your BMR calories. These are the calories you burn just keeping your body alive (even when asleep). They are calculated from your profile settings for age, height, weight etc so you needn't be wearing your fitbit to get them. What you are seeing in the morning includes the total BMR calories burned since they reset at midnight and will vary depending on when you get up.

How can I start with 1000 calories or more in the morning when the watch is just sitting on a table at night and steps start each morning at 0

This just makes no sense.

It's because it calculates them purely from your profile settings - it doesn't need to know what you were doing as they burn at a constant rate day and night. So, they will be the same whether you are wearing the fitbit or not.

Perhaps you might want to spend some time googling BMR calories if we are not able to convince you.

OK
Is there a way to set the calories so that it just starts at zero each morning
If I go to the app that I originally set up, can I change it.

Unfortunately not. They reset to zero automatically at midnight and can't be manually reset. You also can't exclude the BMR calories from the total i.e. separate BMR and active calories.

There is a feature suggestion to change this that you might want to vote for:
