Can't read text on versa

I have an Android. I cannot read text or receive calls on my versa. I got this for the "smart watch" options. But nothing about it is a smart watch and does nothing different than my charge 2. Very unhappy and want to return it. I can't respond to texts and can't answer calls.

@SunsetRunner It's great to see that you've visited the Fitbit Community! When you say you can't read messages on your Versa is it because you aren't getting them on the device? Which phone are you using? Is it compatible to sync with Fitbit devices? Which app are you trying to get messages from? Do you have your phone in silent mode (this will prevent messages and calls from being transferred to your Versa)? Make sure you follow these instructions to setup call and text notifications (you can try even if your phone isn't listed as compatible). You can also try refreshing the link between your phone and your Versa by going to your phone's bluetooth settings, delete all devices listed there now restart your phone and restart your Versa by doing the following:

1.- Press and hold the back (left) and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. This should take less than 10 seconds.
2.- Let go of the buttons.
3.- If your Fitbit watch doesn't work normally, use the instructions in How do I turn off my Fitbit device? to turn your watch off and on again.

I can now read my messages on my versa but cannot reply. I have a Moto z2
force phone. If you can assist with replies that would be great.

The problem is when your phone is lock mode, then your notifications need to be turned on for messaging even when locked.  I couldn't read Texts on my android until I changed 2 settings on my phone:

Settings (general phone settings) >App>Messages>Notifications>

Allow Notifications>ON

On Lock Screen>Show Content

Also,

Open Messages>Tap 3 dots at top>Settings>Notifications>

Popup Display > ON

Preview Message > ON

@SunsetRunner Text replies will be available for phones running Android 7 and above and will depend on the app you are using. Please try these suggestions to enable the QuickReply feature on your Versa watch.

I also cant read messages on my versa but I can reply. I've done all the steps you listed and still nothing. I have a S7. All of my settings are turned on to allow notifications. I even turned on the pop ups on my phone but still nothing.
