Dear fitbit
When will the update roll out to everyone, and most importantly, wil it fix the "connected gps" issue? Because honestly, my charge2 did this flawlesly. Too bad it stopped working after 3 months, luckily the reseller just reimbursed the product while fitbit support was utterly useless.
Against my better judgement I went for the fitbit versa, 2 days ago, and I'm already regretting it. Tracking my runs is the main reason why I wear this, so I just blew 200EURO on a device that doesn't do the one thing I need it to do.
Please let us know when the update will roll out and if it fixes the connection drops the Versa is currently experiencing, because my patience is wearing thin and the Garmin devices are looking more and more attractive every day...

Android 8.1.0
FitBit App 2.77
Versa firmware 32.32.10.15
I do confirm this feature (connected GPS track recording) works flawlessy for me on the same phone using Charge 2.
Versa is reeeeeally bad with this regard. All I see is "Connecting....".
What the heck, FitBit?
Please provide ETA and/or any progress update on the issue!
At least acknowledge it!
Being open about issue and effort will help keep at least some fans.
I mean.... not switching to Garmin only because already invested in this ecosystem.
Would be sad to leave you, but what are other option, huh?

Gday,
I use Iphone 7Plus with the Versa and have Same problem.
Mapmyride app records accurately but the versa gps distance is no where near it.
For example: A 30km bike ride only shoes as about 3.2km on versa.

For me the connected GPS is working fine now with my Nokia 7 plus running Android pie. It started to work fine after the previous firmware update, and continues to work fine with the latest one (32.33.1.30). It already worked fine with my old Lumia 950, running Windows mobile software.
So, I make sure I have the app open on the phone, usually restart the Verso (not sure if that is necessary), sync before leaving the house, and then start the run or bikeride from the watch. It connects pretty quickly and it no longer loses the connection. The quality of the tracking depends on the quality of the GPS on the phone, which for the Nokia is pretty good, and a little less good on the Lumia.
Thanks Fitbit, now I hope it will stay like this.

So after months of pairing my Fitbit Versa with Strava (and accessing the GPS for runs and bike rides) The only way I have managed to achieve the "Connected" status on my Versa is to first open the Fitbit app, and then choose the run or bike ride option on my Versa. After 30 seconds I get the "Connected" buzz and message on my Versa, and then I am good to go. I always keep the Fitbit app open until I am finished my exercise. So far, it seems to work!

FINALLY! With the recent 33.1.30 firmware release, my Versa is connecting to GPS w/my iPhone Xs!! Now.. where/how to see the map of my bike/hike?? Can't find it in the app or anywhere else, so Strava is still required.

@Gmoney In the Fitbit phone app on the dashboard you should go to the Exercise tile and touch that. There you should see a list of recent exercise sessions and ones that were started on your Versa with the Connected GPS feature engaged and working should show a map. If you touch the map it will take you into the details of the session with the map, split times, calories burned, etc.

Yes, I believe Strava is required as that is the program that pulls the GPS data together to create the track/map.

Strava isn't required. All you need is the exercise started on the Versa through the Exercise App with the Connected GPS enabled and your phone with you. If (and that's the big issue) you get and keep a connection with your Versa you'll get a map. If you have your Fitbit account linked with your Strava account, the exercise (run, hike, bike, walk) will roll over to Strava and you can view it on your phone. The little Strava app on your Versa will only show exercise runs that were initiated through the Strava app on your phone and will roll over to the Versa to be viewed in the Strava Versa app (this can take a day or 2 to occur).

Thanks for your reply. My challenge is that my Versa watch is unable to become "connected" during a bike ride/jog unless I open the Fitbit app on my phone prior to engaging the exercise activity on my watch. As well, I need to keep the Fitbit app open for the duration of my exercise in order for my sport activity to show up as a mapped activity under my fitbit app.
So my question is I am able to achieve the "connected" signal on my Versa without opening the Fitbit app on my phone prior to?
Thanks for any info you may have!

If you have an iPhone make sure the Fitbit app permissions for accessing your location are toggled to ‘always’.
