Woke up this morning with over 4200. The Versa was on my wrist and I most certainly didn’t move that much! Super frustrating.

I just received my versa in Sunday, left it off my wrist for work yesterday and put it back on this morning. I have the same issue, 1015 steps this mornin already, as I lay in bed still, and 3105 steps yesterday while it lays on my night stand. Any resolve to this issue?

I have the same issue. It seems its counting my steps every time I move my arms. I'm up to 1464 steps already. I'm walking around the house getting ready for work. I had over 20000 + yesterday. Is Fitbit working on this issue?

@Hockeyman6605 @Z-Man75 Welcome to the Fitbit Community.
@Hockeyman6605 Do you remember leaving your Fitbit Versa next to an electrical appliance? Your smartwatch may register the vibrations as steps. I would recommend leaving it on a different place in order to see if there is any change.
@Z-Man75 Try to wear your Fitbit Versa on the other wrist. This could help to decrease the sensibility of the step count, and the number of extra steps will decrease when you are at rest.
As an alternative workaround, you can negate the extra data by following these steps.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need further assistance.

It sits on my night stand, close to an alarm clock. Not a very powerful one at that. Plus my versa will not connect to my phone when I am trying to start an exercise. It’ll connect for 2 seconds, I start the exercise and back to ‘connecting...’ My phone is 2 feet away on my bike handle bars. What’s up with that?

Same!!! I just got a brand new FitBit Versa last weekend, and this is the second time it's happened to me. I take the watch off, put it on my night stand. The first time it logged about 4000 steps that weren't taken, but I was able to negate them by logging driving. Last night I took my watch off and it logged 7500 steps!!! And for some reason, when I log driving it only shaved off about 300 of the steps. This is super annoying. Should've gotten the Apple Watch.

I returned my first Fitbit versa and exchanged it for another one. This one does a little bit better. At least it doesn't count steps while I have the watch off. It just does it when imI driving or when I make certain movements. I still have to learn how to log things as driving. But I'm still frustrated because my wife's Fitbit does not do this and mine does. She also has the Versa. The onyreason I bought it was because of the step count and because my wife wanted to get one too so we could haythe same Fitbit.

So I fixed this problem by leaving my watch on the kitchen table. We have a small fan next to our bed, as well as an alarm clock that literally sat 6 inches away from my Versa. Leaving it on the kitchen table I have had no phantom steps. 0 everytime. The fan must have been vibrating just enough to cause the steps. At this point I’m happy with it. Saved my wife over $100 on the Apple Watch. Especially for what I use it for. Don’t give up just yet!

So incredibly annoying, right!? Oh that's good that you got a new one. Were they able to replace it for you, or did you have to PAY for a new one? I've been putting it in a completely different room at night, which seems to be working sort of. Will test it all week there, and confirm if its a faulty device or if the fan really does have THAT much effect on steps. (Ridiculous.)

Did you read the posts about a fan or computer near your device? When I took if off and put it on my nightstand, I'd wake up with like 8500 steps!!! So annoying. Then I read this thread and considered my fan next to my bed and tried moving it in the other room on a still surface which seems to be working. Give it a shot!

I bought my Fitbit with a 2-year warranty from Best Buy so they replaced it. The first one was very sensitive to vibrations but this one isn't. II would barely move my arms with the first one and it was counting steps. So my replacement Fitbit is not as sensitive as the first one.

This sucks that this happens. I leave my fibit on and it records steps during sleep too. It did it in the bedroom and I guess the fan could be causing vibrations like other posts have said. Around 1500 steps were recorded. Tonight I fell asleep on the couch and when I had 11,000 or 12,000 steps before I took a nap I woke up with over 20,000 steps now. Unless I sleep jog I hope there is a fix coming soon.

I just read that people are having increased steps while charging and mine was on the charger for awhile before I put it back on and fell asleep. Maybe thats why the steps shot up so much on me too.

Having the same issue new out of the box two days ago. I am apparently getting 35K steps in my sleep, while my watch is on my nightstand. I do have an aquarium on my nightstand, and air conditioner in my window and a fan at the foot of the bed. But in 3 years, my Garmin never lost it's cool over minor appliances in the night. I am starting to regret switching brands. I have done a "turn it on and off again" as recommended by support. Hopefully this solves the issue.

Hi, I’m a trucker in Canada. I use a auxiliary power unit for heat. The fibit versa logged 31000 extra steps while i slept due to vibrations from the APU. If the only work around is driving, I won’t be logging any sleep time ALL winter.
How about a in app fix that overrides this?

This is my 4th Versa, been exchanging as it counts Phantom steps while i Sleep. This one is no better i will still watch it for a few days. Last night when sleeping it calculated 4500 steps. So Annoying. I will try with one more exchange at the max.
