Hi all. Have just purchased a versa I've  been driving most of the day and it logging a ridiculous amount of steps. I'm unable to have my phone with me during the hours of work so unable to use dashboard during the hours of working as changing the activity and I dont really see why I should. When the Samsung health app seems to work so much better than fitbits own app. Any suggestions welcome otherwise will be getting a refund. Really quite shock that this seems to be an ongoing problem a a company like this can not solve this problem.

Hello @SunsetRunner, welcome to the Community Forums! Sorry for the delayed reply.

Thanks for your post and feedback. Let me share with you that your device has been tested against driving and riding in buses, trains, and other public transportation and shouldn’t add steps when you’re traveling under normal conditions. On bumpy roads or in a car with a stiff transmission your device may add some steps. For most users, the number of extra steps added when driving isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats.

If you want to remove the steps from your daily total, manually log the driving activity for the time you were in a vehicle. For more information see How do I edit or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for you suggestion. I ended up phoning Fitbit as I found it unbelievable that this is an ongoing problem from reading other people posts and it's not a new problem it goes back a couple of years. I've had fitbits before and have never had this problem but when I getting steps added by the thousands and that's not an exaggeration when I'm a passenger in a car is unacceptable and apart from the standard reset the only other suggestion is to manually delete steps. I obviously have sent my fit bit back as I feel it's not fit for purpose. So for the time being I'm using my old Fitbit but will be looking at purchasing from a different company. As for a company that is aware of this problem not fix the issue whether by update or a pause facility if you are driving and still take people's money for a product that doesn't work is disgusting. Also to be told to wear my watch on my wrist are they for real...

I'm facing the same problem and I'm quite disappointed that there aren't other options to have this bug fixed, was not aware of it when I purchased my Fitbit. I have quite a funny story with it though and I might need to thank the company for this bug after all. I own a transport company and one day I checked the app on my phone only to see that I have made a couple of hundreds of miles that day. Turnes out one of my drivers stole my Fitbit and then went on the road with it in the pocket. Since then I make sure to only employ professionals with the help of https://www.avatarfleet.com/ this recruitmnet software, so thank you afterall for showing this weekness in my company.

Fitbit,

I recently purchased my first Fitbit (versa 2) in hopes of tracking activity i do as I'm trying to make healthy improvements in my life.  on day two i noticed that i achieved my first 10000 steps while driving down the road in my work truck.  I am a cable linemen for a major telecommunications company.  I drive a heavy duty utility truck all day. (a rough rider).  I am in and out of the truck all day for 10 hours a day. I just watched it track 200 steps in the last few miles.

After reading posts I see that trackers and watches have had this problem with all types of vehicles for several years,  predating 2016.  Deleting steps manually is not a convenient option as I would be doing it dozens of times a day and taking it on an off to charge while driving is also very inconvenient as I make frequent stops and am in and out of my truck dozens of times a day.  I was first tracking my steps with my iPhone,  and it does not have this problem.

Modern technology is all about convenience.  For Fitbit to not address this problem better, (that has been known for several years) is very disappointing.  Seems like a firmware update, or adding a driving tap button on the watches would be an easy fix.  Can you please provide me a better answer than deleting steps manually, or charging while driving?

Thank you.
