Hello everyone 🙂

I'm going to go back to Fitbit and purchase the Versa 2. I just have some questions hopefully someone could answer for me. Thank you 🙂

1. Do you need to stay on the Fitbit  exercise  screen while tracking a workout or can you go back to the main screen and the  exercise screen will continue to work in the background?

2. If I track a workout can I see the amount of steps I did in that workout?

3. Will the steps I did in that workout count towards my overall steps for the day?

@steveojp   You can't go back and forth between the Exercise app and Spotify on any type of Fitbit.  I don't use Spotify, but I believe users say they start Spotify, then the Exercise app.  I'm including a link to the Fitbit App Gallery that describes Fitbit's Spotify Connect and Control.

When you are using the Exercise app, the screen shows 3 metrics and they can be customized, depending on the exercise.  You set the top stat and the bottom stat.  For example, my Run shortcut has distance as the top stat and elapsed time as the bottom stat.  You can scroll through the middle stat and see your steps, current pace, average pace, time of day, calories and so on.  You can set your top stat to steps, if you want.  Also as an example, the Weights shortcut doesn't show steps on the device as one of the customizable stats.  If you take steps, they will count towards your daily total, but steps are something usually tracked in a weightlifting session.

Like I said, you get an exercise summary on the Versa 2 face right when you end the exercise.  And there are exercise details in the app.  So yes, if you are running or walking or doing anything else where steps are measured, you can see your steps on the Versa 2 screen while you are doing it and you see it in your exercise details in the app when you are done.

Hello @steveojp and welcome back to Fitbit.  I have the answers to all your questions.  And to the additional one you put in a different forum.

  1. The exercise app must run in the foreground.  You can't for example, use the Exercise App and the available C25k app at the same time.  Both must run in the foreground.
  2. When you finish an exercise using the exercise app, you get a summary on the Versa 2 screen.  You also get details on the phone app.
  3. The steps you do in a workout are added to your daily total.
  4. With respect using/not using the exercise app, it depends on the detail you want.  For example, an auto-recognized walk doesn't give you a distance in the details, but the steps, distance, etc., get added to you daily totals.  Most of my walks and runs are distances that I know well.  I tend to auto-recognize those and track things that are new and different.  It all depends the level of detail you want.

If you think of anything else, we are here to help.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. For example I have an Apple Watch right now and I can select a workout and go back to the home screen or go click Spotify and change the song all on my watch and the workout is still running in my background. Does the newer fitbits do this or do I need to stay on the exercise mode until I am done?

Also I noticed on some videos I was watching that even in the workout screen while doing an exercise on the screen it doesn't show the steps until you are done with the workout correct?

The reason I would like to use the  exercise mode was to just get details on that exercise...distance, steps, calories...all for that exercise.

So just to confirm if I do select exercise mode it will show me the steps I did for that exercise correct?

Thank you for the reply 🙂

You said you can't go from the exercise app to Spotify...which is fine..but can I go from the exercise app to maybe the main clock screen or no matter what if the exercise app is running I have to stay on there until I end it?

Thanks again

@steveojp   No, you can't go back to the main clock screen, but the current time is one of stats.  I haven't tried every exercise shortcut, but the ones I use all have the current time as one you can set as the top or bottom stat and/or the middle stat that you can scroll through.

Awesome! Yeah right now I am using my old Charge 2. So I am just looking at different Fitbits so when I buy mine in the next few weeks.

I'm hoping Fitbit comes out with a new scale eventually. I noticed they took down the Aria 2 from their store. Amazon says it's not released yet which doesn't make sense because Bestbuy sells it. So my guess is Fitbit might be coming out with a new one. I got a scale off Amazon for now that Sync with Fitbit so I'll see how that goes.

@steveojp   I looked that Amazon page and it's very confusing.  The Aria 2 was released in the fall of 2017.  I don't know what they are referring to.  I'm happy that you found a scale that meets your needs for the time being.

My guess, and I assure you this is only a guess, is that Fitbit is planning on releasing a new scale.  When the store sells out of a product and Fitbit still plans on selling it, that item is placed on backorder until the stock is replenished.  The Aria 2 is just gone.  Like I said, this is only a guess.

I am now a bit confused.  On my Versa 2 I want to run the exercise app while walking but want the clock face to be visible during the walk.  The exercise app is too frenetic for me.  How do I do this?
