I bought Fitbit Versa 2 for a wife and I want to share my experiences of this fitness watch. Initial demand was smart watch, nicely designed with nfc pay and music storage on board. I expected good fitness tracking abilities since Fitbit is a fitness brand and all reviews I had read were saying that Fitbit app has plenty of fitness tracking stats. I trusted it and I did not investigate it deeper, it´s Fitbit afterall, what could go wrong.
I have had myself Garmin Vivoactive 3 for over a year so I can pretty much compare both watches. First I wanted to check connected gps functionality, I tested it several times, I expected that once watch is paired to phone via BT, it would work almost instantly. I waited one minute for connected gps started to work, I was wondering what´s wrong, then I unlocked phone, started Fitbit app, only after then phone initialized gps searching. It´s annoying. Feature works but user interaction is required sometimes. Edit: after using it for more than a week, connected gps is a mess, I hate it. You think phone has BT on, watch is paired to the phone, but gps is not working unless you manually open fitbit app.
My wife goes running on the stadium, 15 laps usually. I know it´s not running watch but I expected at least basic sports functions on board. Big surprise is that log (fitbit app in the phone) does not show time per lap. Only distance and pace, that´s horrible decision from Fitbit considering there is enough empty space on the screen to show one column more. Really, such basic function as time per lap is missing ? Pace and distance is not accurate without gps, it´s only estimation based on step´s length, only accurate info would be lap time, since user press it manually after each lap, and this feature is surprisingly missing !!!
Another issue, activity summary on main screen does not show total running time – see screenshot. One would guess that´s the first and most important stat, Fitbit thinks otherwise...
Log reports only very spartan info, comparing to Garmin (check what stats Vivoactive 3 shows for running excercise and it´s not even running watch), it´s not even comparable, it´s another league. Fitbit offer very basic statistic which I would expect from 10 € watch from Lidl, not from 185€ watch. I am really disappointed, I did not expect such spartan sport statistics.
Notification sometimes work sometimes not. Usually not, that´s another disappoinment. Looks like there are more and more disappointments longer we use it.
Design is very nice, display´s colours are nice, touch screen works good, but manipulating with touch screen is very limited. Garming offers much more, swipe from left, right up and down, double tap. Fitbit is more limited.
So, final verdict would be: watch is nice overall but sport functions are very limited. Notification, gps don´t work well, app on android is very limited, stats are very spartan. Most likely the last Fitbit watch I ever bought.
